Informative enjoyable reading
An in depth book about the NY dance scene from 80-83. If you LIVED for the night life during this era and want to read about this era, this book is for you. Filled with a rich history of the biggest clubs the owners and dj's in NY at the time. This was an UNFORGETTABLE time that I will cherish forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

great book
The writer can grapple with a lot of info and situate the club scene in a social historical context. But clubs are tough to write about. They are different on different nights, so you need to careful about passing judgments. Perhaps the views of Valenti and Magnuson dominate the book too much.

My Loft & Garage Days come alive, again!!!
The absolute best account of Disco and Dance in the 70's, especially if you were a Loft & Garage person. Really learned some new and interesting stuff about my boys, David Mancuso, Nicky Siano, Larry Levan and my best bud, Walter Gibbons. Loved this book!!!

Fun to read
Fun to read, especially if you know any of the people in the book. Good index— very important in this sort of people-filled history.

New York Underground \ Overground
This book is an evocative and informative insight of a particularly fertile period of creativity and artistic and musical cross-pollination. Set between 1980-1983, it also sets the scene in a wider historical and social context and is both a celebration and a critique of an influential and sometimes heavily mythologized time and of a city that no longer exists.Exceptionally readable and thoroughly enjoyable as well as thought provoking and learned this is a wonderful book. I read it in New York and wished I had been able to visit Danceteria or the Mudd Club.

Great book about a great time and place in modern history
Fascinating read about a fascinating time, the timelines jump about a bit which can be confusing but somewhat unavoidable given the numerous concurrent threads explored

Interessante

Buy the Hardcover in the States.
This review is not about the content but the presentation: If you splash out and buy the very expensive hard cover version, be warned: In the UK you get the paperback version (individual pages, laminated together) with a card board cover glued around it (left image) - a total rip off.Only if you buy in the US or from a US marketplace seller will you be able to get a properly bound book (picture on the right)
