I buy large for a 32inch waste myself but sizing varies between manufacturers so if it is too large try medium.

Q: Is there a back pocket?

No back pocket, just side pockets. Though the side pocket zippers break after wearing 1-2x. If you’re looking for quality these are not the shorts. If you’re looking for something to bum around in or do your lawn in, these are perfect.
