My Green Mattress Pure Echo GOTS Organic Cotton Natural Mattress (One-Sided) (Twin XL) Made in The USA

My wife is a Naturopathic Doctor and understands the importance of a natural mattress and insisted we buy one for my daughter when we moved her out of her crib. I was hesitant since these are so expensive, but she explained that sleeping on a mattress that is not natural means that her face is pressed up against chemicals and toxic off-gassing for an entire night. This was a huge concern so we searched high and low for a high quality natural mattress that would also provide her with a good night's sleep. We went to a local store that specialized in organic mattresses and could not find anything that felt good (they felt flimsy) and they were all so expensive. I decided to search online to see if I could find something and luckily I found the Echo Mattress.We purchased the single sided Echo Mattress for my little girl and we absolutely LOVE it. It is super clean, no smells at all, and very comfortable. It came packaged rolled up and was super easy to bring upstairs and unroll onto her bed.Now when I read my little girl bedtime stories I end up staying in bed with her a bit longer than I need to so I can enjoy her comfortable bed. I was actually enjoying my little girl's mattress better than my own so we decided to buy a King Size double sided version of this mattress for my own bed.This is an incredible bed an a wonderful price and the customer service in this place is amazing too!

I slept on this mattress for 18 months and after about a year, I started getting terrible backaches. The mattress was sagging and compressed on the side I sleep on. It was very apparent when I took the sheets off and you could see an indentation of my body. I am a smallish person, weighing 115 lbs. I posted a pic with my initial review showing the visible indentation of my body and the manufacturer sent me a replacement. They said they improved their design. Now I have been sleeping on the replacement for a year and started experiencing the same thing--back pain, general stiffness, and disrupted sleep. This is a single sided mattress so you can't flip it. I would try to switch sides every month to prevent it from getting worn on only on one side, but it made no difference. After one year of a smallish person sleeping on it, a mattress should not be sagging and hurting my back. I am in my early 40's, fit, with no health or back problems. I feel like a creaky, arthritic 80 year old woman getting out of bed every morning. I really wanted to love this mattress, and wanted to support a small, independent business, but I cannot endorse this mattress. I used a 2 inch latex topper and a mattress pad on each of mine and it didn't help because the support underneath (the mattress itself) just wasn't there. If you look at the breakdown of the reviews by stars, many of the 4 and 5 star reviews are people who have purchased this mattress for their children or guest room, or people who have only slept on it for a week or two. The 3, 2, and 1 star reviews tend to be from adults sleeping on the mattress themselves. One thing I will say is that I noticed a lot of reviewers complaining about the smell. I had two of these mattresses and didn't notice a smell on either one, although the manufacturer says it may smell more in humid climates (I'm in the desert).

This is a great organic mattress. I previously bought the 1-sided Naturepedic, but decided to get this one for my 2nd child, as it was about $200 cheaper. I've been happy with the Naturepedic, but this one seems great too.The mattress arrived rolled up into a really compact package. It sprang open when I loosened the packaging material a bit. Right away, it looked like a normal mattress, not one that had been rolled up so small. There was a noticeable "organic mattress" smell. It doesn't bother me much, because I was used to it with the former mattress. The smell wanes a bit, but doesn't really go away. But it's much better than the chemical smell of other mattresses and furniture.So far, it feels really comfy. Disclaimer: a 5 year old is sleeping on it, so it doesn't take much to be supportive or comfy. And we've only had it a couple of days, so I can't speak for it's durability. But it seems sturdy enough as of now. I'm very happy with the mattress at such a great price.********UPDATE: After about a week, the slight smell I mentioned morphed into full-blown barn yard. My daughter's entire room smells like a farm now, and she wakes up smelling. I'm amending my rating and have contacted the company for suggestions. Will amend again if problem resolves.UPDATE #2: Company suggested letting the mattress sit in the sun for a day or 2. I've only had about 1 1/4 days of sunshine since then, and it did help the smell a little. Maybe if you lived somewhere you could leave the mattress out for several days in the sun, it might make a bigger difference. The smell is definitely still there, but it's not quite as strong. I think it's a good mattress for a good price, as long as you don't get the smell issue. It seems like it's not every mattress that smells this bad, so maybe it's luck of the draw. Still, it's something the company might consider for quality control purposes in the future.UPDATE #3: Let it sun for a couple of days. Initially, the smell went away completely after sunning. After a couple of days, it came back. It's not nearly as bad as it was. It still smells like natural wool, but not so much like a barnyard. I also encased it in a waterproof mattress protector, so this has helped a bit too. I'd still recommend buying it, as long as you can take the time to air it out and sun it properly.
