The perfect tool for punching heavy material
I wanted to make home made sun shade screens for my windows. I live in Arizona and the summer sun really heats up the house and buying Pre-made sun screens is expensive. I needed to punch holes in doubled over sun screen fabric to install grommets. I bought a grommet kit from local big box store that would not punch holes through the thick heavy duty sun screen fabric. I ordered these hole punches from Amazon. I placed a piece of MDF under the fabric and used a metal mallet and these hole punches went through the fabric like a warm knife through butter! I was able to punch holes through the four screens I made without any signs of dulling the punch. Each shade was about 64 inches by 68 inches, and I punched every 8 inches around the fabric. These punches made a tedious job very easy. I think I will be able to use these punches for many projects over the years.

Works
How much can you really expect from a tool set that costs $12.99? I've only used two sizes to punch holes in a couple leather belts but the steel and machining appears okay, reasonably sharp too. It did take several strikes with a mallet to punch all the way through but I wouldn't expect a single strike to do it anyway. I suppose a single massive blow would do it but let's be realistic, would anyone really want to give up any hope of control to do that? Bottom line, it worked within reasonable expectations and considering the price, it was a great value.

Short punches
Nice set overall. My only complaint is how short they are. I hit my hand as often as I hit the punch. And my hands aren't very large.

Good value on some nicely sharp punches
These arrived just in time to be put to use on a project involving a *lot* of holes in 4 oz. pull-up cowhide. My hand still ached from punching a few from my (dull) rotary punch the day prior, so these seemed a dream by comparison. Only a tap or two is needed--they bite right through. Occasionally rubbing the cutting edge with beeswax helped with retrieval and cutting into some thick poundo board saves the edge. A little tip I learned the hard way with some older punches...definitely clean out the leather plugs when you're finished, as anything left will absorb water, cause rust and dull your edges. It's also worth drilling out a block of wood to store these properly so the don't rattle around in a drawer. With such a selection of sized, this is great set of punches and I highly recommend them.

Be prepared to hammer the punch a lot
It worked really well on a watch band. It did not work well on thicker leather belts. I probably hammered the punch well over 100 times to get a hole made in the belt. The punches do not appear to be very sharp.
