NO FALSE ADVERTISING HERE - Amazingly beautiful bowl.
I feel like it's only fair to point out that the only negative reviews about this bowl are based on a fraudulent seller getting in on this listing with their inferior product (read the seller's explanation embedded in the comments under that review). It's unfortunate that the people who carefully handmade these bowls have to suffer from a SCATHING REVIEW THAT'S NOT EVEN ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT! Don't let those negative reviews based on misinformation dissuade you. It appears that they solved the fraud problem anyway, as there are no alternate sellers listed for this bowl anymore like there used to be - only Hagestad, the legitimate maker/seller. Here's what I found when I ordered two of these bowls, a 7" and 8" one (this listing only shows the 6" and 7" bowls; the extra large 8" one is offered in a separate listing).A note on sizing: so I bought a 7" bowl first, and although the information in the listing is absolutely accurate - the bowl is indeed 7" - that measurement refers to the overall size of the bowl, from outer edge to outer edge. But this is a very sturdy bowl and the walls are quite thick, so if you measure the interior space of the 7" bowl you'll find that it's about 5.5" across. As you can see in my attached photos, this was a snug fit for a brand-new skein of wool, but totally do-able if you're working with smaller balls. Of course, once you start knitting, I guess you have a smaller ball pretty soon anyway, so maybe the 7" size is not a problem - it looks like many reviewers are very happy with the 7" bowl. In any case, I ordered the next size up (the 8" bowl offered in a separate listing) and I slightly preferred the bigger size, so i'm going to go with that one. But both sizes are incredibly beautiful and clearly very well made. Very smooth edges, beautiful grain in the wood, heavy enough to stay put and not slide around when you tug your yarn. Some people have mentioned an odor. There's a scent, but I think it's pretty much what you'd expect to have on a brand-new varnished piece of woodwork. I personally didn't find the smell was noticeable unless I stuck my nose right in the bowl, and then it faded away completely after sitting out for a while. I highly recommend these bowls, even though there are cheaper ones all over Amazon. You'll see when you hold it in your hands that you've got a substantial, high-quality work of art in front of you. For a fine piece of handmade woodworking, I think the price is totally fair. If you disagree, returns are easy enough. But once you see it in person I doubt you'll want to return it.

Great bowl!
This bowl is beautiful! Giving it to my mom for Christmas and she’s going to love it. I noticed it has a fairly strong smell when I first opened it, but I’m sure that’s just whatever stain/lacquer they used to seal it. I’m thinking that’ll dissipate out once it’s out of the bag and in the air for a bit. I’m really happy with it!

Beautiful and Works Past Expectations
I received my yarn bowl a couple of days ago and so far I love it. Some of the previous reviews mentioned a smell and that they had to air it out. This didn't deter me, and I was prepared when my bowl came. I, personally, didn't notice a strong, unpleasant smell. Then again, I like the smell of wood. I liked the nice touch of the bowl being in a nice velvet bag. The bowl itself is beautiful. I love the coloring and the size of the bowl. I went on a 4-hour road trip the first day I got it, and the bowl worked very nicely.I have used it in finishing one of my crocheting projects and with starting another knitting project. So far, the bowl has worked past expectations. I have only been using sock weight yarn, so I don't know if there will be difference with a more thicker yarn. I would assume I would see no issues with this though. One of the yarns I did use was a fancier yarn and had some rougher strands for decorative purposes. The yarn did not stick to the bowl which is good.Overall: I would recommend this bowl to anyone who has troubles keeping their ball of yarn nearby, has chased their yarn across the room, or travels.

Great bowl, but not ready to use when it arrived
I think that these bowls are a lovely solution to the wandering-ball-of-yarn issues that all knitters and crocheters have.It is lovely- heavy and solid feeling. The colour is gorgeous, and it had a very slight smell, but it was gone within a few minutes.I took a star away due to the rough bottom of the bowl. It is very rough, with obvious raised points. My husband will try to smooth them out and then refinish the base, but I don't think that he should have to do that. This bowl wasn't cheap, at least not for me, and it should have come ready to be used right out of the box. (I am glad that I didn't buy this as a gift- I would have been embarrassed to hand a less-than-smooth bowl to a fellow knitter.) Perhaps the company could up the personnel in Quality Assurance so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. I wanted to use this bowl right away, but now I have to wait until my husband can find time to work on it. Very frustrating, to say the least.Once my DH gets the bowl fixed, it will suit my needs perfectly.

Mixed feelings...
Tbh, I'm on the fence about this. The bowl is well crafted and sturdy. I'm glad mine came with hooks because it appears from the comments that many did not. It also arrived on time before Christmas as promised. However, like other reviews have stated, there IS a very unpleasant odor to the bag and the bowl, moreso the bag. I'm currently airing the bag outside in the cold after dousing it with Lysol in hopes I can include it in my gift to my SIL. I'm not gonna lie, the smell is pretty terrible. I'm just glad the bowl itself doesn't smell quite as bad. The bag is also kinda worn in a few spots like it's been sitting in the box for a looong time. I also did not receive a "thank you" note like others have displayed in their reviews.I wanted to love this and love giving it as a gift, but we'll see...

A beautiful, solid, smooth-textured yarn bowl
I bought the 7" X 4" bowl, and I like it so much I've ordered the 6" X 3" bowl, too. This bowl is truly a work of art, rather than just a functional yarn bowl. It's solid, well finished--for example, the cut-out swirl is beautifully curved and smooth--and polished, and a delight to use. It looks lovely on a wood table, too. I have a cheaper wooden yarn bowl, and beside this one, it looks roughly finished and is quite flimsy. Like other reviewers, I do think this bowl is a bit heavy/solid for traveling. However, if I were traveling by car rather than flying, I would take it with me.
