I had tried another product prior to this for my fireplace, but I decided to give this a try for a nice aroma and easy lighting. Unfortunately, it does neither. I'm going back to Billy Buckskin brand.2/25 update-I tried an experiment. I put a stick of the Billy Buckskin brand (much smaller) on one side of the firewood and this (much longer) under the other side. I used newspaper under both and lit this side first. A few minutes later, the Billy Buckskin side had caught fully and the log section on top was catching. While the paper under this brand caught, the stick never did! I wish there was a zero rating.

The photos look like they are 6" long like all the other fatwood-type wood I have gotten. These are 12" long. I bought them for my solo stove XL and they are too long. I was able to snip most of them in half with garden shears but some are just too hard and I don't have an axe.

Exactly as described works very well to start fire… doesn’t have the strong gassy smell some gives off
