Lapidary templates are traditionally rigid aluminum, the good ones are two pieces of aluminum held off of each other about 1/4" so you can get the front and back marked at the same time. This is super-thin clear frosted plastic, about the same thickness as one of the plastic six-pack holders that you have to cut up after use to prevent wildlife trapping themselves. Mine is so thin it came with a circular bend that tells me that my template was the last item cut out of the roll.. This is not even worth a fraction of the $12 and shipping it cost, I can make something this flimsy myself with about .20c worth of plastic and an X-acto...

These are great. I love that they are clear so even when you may it down you can still see the rest of the pattern on the stone, just in case you want to move it to change the design instead of having to lift the template up. The are a great thickness, can bend just enough of the slab has raised areas not like metal ones that are awkward. These also have a small hole in the corner so you can connect several to hang them. The designs are great and make beautiful shapes for cabachons.

We use these shapes occasionally, but not many people choose them.
