From the Manufacturer Tropico 2: Pirate Cove is the sequel to the award-winning Fun in the Sun Caribbean simulation, Tropico. As a Pirate King, rule a secret pirate island full of despicable 17th century Sea Dogs. Rule your economy by plundering wealthy merchant ships and taking prisoners back to the island as captive workers. Keep your scurvy buccaneers satisfied with rowdy gambling, jolly feasting, and barrels of rum! World powers fear you, brigands respect you, captives obey your every command, and dont forget about the wenching! Argh, thar aint nuttin like bein a Pirate King!

Great replay value
I've played this game so many times. Trouble is that when you start a game you don't want to quit playing until the game ends and you find out where you rank. I've pulled a few all-nighters that way.If I had to choose between this Tropico and the original Tropico 1, I did enjoy Tropico 1 a wee bit more. The dictator choices were hilarious. I think I ended up farting a lot as a dictator in the original Tropico.

Super lag
I bought this game a few months ago and was hoping to have a fun sim game for my PowerBook G4. Unfortunately the game is super laggy when you have a few pirates and captives roaming about. In the later stages of the game it got so bad that I had to turn all video options to low and still had the lag problems. I would have rated the game higher for fun factor but just couldn't enjoy it because of the slow motion capture effect that kept going on due to the lag of the game. Disappointed that this was the case, for the most part I had fun building the town and earning gold ect., just can't believe that MacSoft put together such a unpolished game.

Argh - A good time indeed
After playing Civilization III at an almost addictive rate, Tropico II - Pirate's Cove is a breath of fresh air. And maybe a bit more challenging. There's a tricky balance to keeping your captives resigned and your pirates happy. The graphics are fun and so is a Pirate's life. The learning curve is higher than Civ III (it was for me) - there are so many varibles with Tropico II - a reason why I like the game. The ships a player gets to build are cool. I have had the game unexpectedly quit on me a couple of times and the auto save feature can get annoying. But overall it's a purchase I'm happy with.

Arrr, Ahoy matey time for some pirates
If you ever played the original Tropico or any SIM's type games before you will probably like Tropico 2. Its supposed to be a sequel to the original Tropico, but its revamped into a whole Pirate Theme. I used to love Tropico, the music and the characters and wanted more. My wife got the sequel and we both like the scenarios. Its hard to describe the game to people who've never played the original Tropico. All I can say is this game has some good game play for many ages. Fun for adults and kids. Its animation and sound is great. I love the Mac version better myself.

A great new edition to the wonderful original Tropico
If you liked Tropico, you should find this fun and entertaining as well. I think both Tropico/Tropico 2 are the best sim games on the market, much more fun that the usual city building games. At first it's a little difficult to grasp some of the concepts, and game play is a little different than the original. In this version you're concerned a lot more with events that actually happen off the island, where as in the original you didn't have any control over what happened when boats/planes left the island. Of course, you also didn't have to worry about ships sinking...The types of games are similar to the original Tropico, where you have scenarios or ones you design yourself. The map editor is a great thing that was not included with the original. You can play single games or there is also a "campaign" that starts you off easy and increases in difficulty (like the Warcraft campaign idea).Pirate Cove provides hours and hours of swashbuckling fun and has many new features. As far as gameplay goes, performance has improved since the original Tropico, it works great in OS X. If you like this game, I'd HIGHLY recommend the original Tropico also.
