Lock works great.

I bought this lock to pick and it makes for an awesome practice lock. Honestly superior to all the locks sold by specialty sites as practice locks and I’ll explain. First, it’s just as easy to pin as a practice lock, using the same window feature as a Sparrows sidewinder. If you order a cheap Schlage pin kit you’ll be all set for rekeys and maintenance such as replacing springs. The driver pins can also be serviced using a plug follower. And you can hold it in your hand lying in bed unlike most mortise cylinder based practice locks. And since it uses the Schlage C keyway replacement pins and tools are cheap and plentiful. There’s a whole cottage industry in the locksport world based on building these out for challenges and you can add lots of different security pins for different difficulty levels. The cheapest place to find a good assortment will probably be the sparrows reload kit. It also comes with several keys and matching key pins if you don’t want to buy a whole Schlage service kit. These come out the box with a blank key, 5 zero cut key pins, 4 very nice spooled driver pins, and one really sad serrated pin for core biasing. Also included is a fifth spool, spring, and sliding cover so you can configure this lock for 6 pins, which I did. I replaced the weak serrated pin with a sparrows checkers pin. Once fully configured for 6 pins with some nice uneven bitting, this lock is proving quite difficult to pick. It’s extremely high quality German craftsmanship and the tolerances are very tight. Not a lot of slop to help keep the drivers above the shear line. If you want a top notch practice lock that you can hold in your hand while kicking back watching TV for less money than the specialty sites look no further. The aluminum version might be a little easier to hold for long sessions but I prefer the fit and finish of brass. For me the size and weight are very comfortable to hold for long periods of time. If you’re buying this to put in use, it’s extremely sturdy and should hold up well against the elements, but will be vulnerable to shackle cutting attacks. But if you want a nice sturdy padlock that can be mastered and keyed alike to your door locks and maintained with cheap parts then look no further. All around excellent lock. Abus makes some of the best padlocks money can buy at a great price point. Everything you’ll find at the hardware store is trash by comparison.

This is a very nice heavy lock. it is machined well with no sharp edges and functions very well. The lock and unlock action feels buttery smooth (especially compared to your standard master lock, etc). The real standout feature though is the ability to re-key this lock to match other locks you already own; This specific model comes with a Schlage core, which allowed me to re-key it to use my existing house keys. The cylinder is very well designed and allows you to change out the bottom pins without removing the top pins and springs, this makes it really quick and easy to re-key. The only tool you need a simple #2 Phillips screwdriver. i don't think people should be leaving negative reviews because they didn't know what they were buying; and from what I read they had nothing negative to say about the lock itself. I probably wouldn't recommend buying this if you don't know (or are unwilling to learn) how to re-key a lock. It is not difficult, and it's a very good skill to learn; Youtube will teach you everything you need to know. You can buy a simple Schlage re-key kit with the pins you need from Amazon or elsewhere for about what a locksmith would charge you to re-key a single lock and that kit will last you a lifetime. Bottom line... This is a great quality lock for a good price if you know (or are wiling to take a few minutes to learn) how to re-key a lock.

NEED to get it keyed to your SCHLAGE style house key is sent with uncut "blank" key and pinned that way so LOW security until you get it rekeyed to your house key ANY lock smith can do it and Amazon sells a kit to rekey SCHLAGE locks padlock works like any other padlock and is of GOOD build quality

My house, like many, has door locks keyed to the Schlage "C" keyway. I have several of these padlocks that I've keyed to match now. Note that these are keyed "0-bitted" (to a blank key), so you do need to rekey them when you get them. The lock is very well-made and has a nice heft to it. Where it really shines, though, is the thoughtful design. The core comes out with a single screw, which is fairly common. What isn't common is the "pinning window". Basically, you press a retainer and turn the key far enough and you can access the pins directly. No plug follower needed. This makes these locks extremely easy to rekey. You'll just need a cheap pinning kit and you're good to go and can have the job done in a couple minutes. Additionally, the "C6A" (chamber 6 access) feature is awesome. My house is keyed to 6 pins (common in commercial, not common for residential), so all I need to do is drop in the included top pin and spring included with the lock and slide the cap over it to convert this to a 6-pin lock. It also has a "Z-bar" feature that can convert the lock back and forth from being key retaining. I don't use this, but it could be helpful in some applications. If you don't have a Schlage "C" keyway, Abus makes this same lock with different cylinders - Kwikset, Arrow, Weiser, Yale Para, Schlage Everest, Sargent LA-LC, Corbin-Russwin L4/D/59/60, Schlage Composite C-K, and Master. They really covered their bases for common keyways. If you have something unusual that you can get in a KIK (key in knob/lever) cylinder, Abus even offers an adapter kit for that. I can't recommend these enough - they're well made, perfectly designed, and priced right.
