Read it and feel good about your parenting.
This book (I bought copies for each of my kids, who are parents now) explains how to build on what your child is good at. Not pushing them into anything, but unlocking the doors and clearing the way for their full potential to be possible. And satisfying.

Help your children discover what they are good at.
Psychologist Andrew Fuller believes that every child, every person, has a talent, their own inner genius. Those talents range from the intellectual to the musical, from sports prowess to being good with people. This book is designed to help parents work out what it is their children are good at so that they can pursue a productive, happy life. As Dr Fuller says, whilst it is nice to be good at many things, you only have to be good at one. He addresses a range of skills about how children learn and provides parents with games and activities to undertake with their children at every age in order to a) uncover and b) hone their skill/s. One of his tips is to set up a creative space somewhere in the house; a space where projects can be left in various stages of completion, even if it means hiding it behind a drop sheet or a room divider. After all, genius is not neat!. While Unlocking Your Child's Genius is intended for parents, I also find it very helpful from an individual perspective, as it allowed me to reassess my own talents, the way I learn and what direction I should pursue going forward in life.

As adults we frequently do great things to motivate the young people in our lives ...
Andrew Fuller is well known in Australia for his entertaining presentations and inspiration for teachers and parents. "Unlocking your Child's Genius" is a natural extension of his previous work. It's encouraging as a parent and professional to be reminded we all function on a day-to-day basis thanks to our ancient brain which the author affectionately refers to as "Rex". What's infinitely more inspiring is Andrew's sharing of practical ideas to unlock the genius part of our brains which he calls "Albert". He challenges the reader to quietly observe the important young people in our lives and to unlock the strengths of their personalities and interests. Often those strengths are different to our own. The book provides tips to manage the uncomfortable challenges of living or working with developing personalities that are not carbon copies of ourselves. As adults we frequently do great things to motivate the young people in our lives to grow, learn and develop. 'Unlocking your Child's Genius' provides a perception of how to be an even more inspirational pilot and guide.

The Best Book!
A wonderfully engaging and resourceful book for anyone who has a vested interest in child development. This book not only clearly states the different innate qualities children possess, but also outlines strategies to develop the whole child to their full potential. These strategies go beyond standard educational activities, to include the vital areas of nutrition, exercise, play and sleep. All essential, and sometimes not recognised enough in their importance in maximising cognitive, psychosocial and physical development. This book definitely expanded my own personal understanding and knowledge on child growth, and it is a book that I will continually use as an ongoing resource. I loved it!

An indispensable resource for parents and grandparents!
When Professor John Hattie describes a new book as a "brilliant gem" any educator's interest would be sparked. Andrew Fuller's new book outlines clearly the ways parents and grandparents can unlock children's and teen's inner genius. This book should be in every school and would be an indispensable asset at every parent- teacher interview.

A really compelling book.
I've been thinking very differently about parenting since I bought this book. Some excellent advice along with a great deal of reassurance that perhaps I'm not doing too bad a job with my children.
