DIY Sump Pump Alarm
I have an electric sump pump with a water powered backup pump with the float set at a higher level. I had a cheap water monitor that used probes to detect water. With water present a circuit closes. The problem is any splash onto the probes would set it off. I replaced the probes with a single float switch. With proper placement of this float now I get an alarm if the main pump fails just prior to the backup pump kicking on.

Does not last
This float switch lasted 2 months and then failed. Difficult to determine how it failed but it could be that water got into the reed switch. There was no load on it because it was wired to a dry contact. The supplier has not responded to my issue so I can only assume the supplier does not stand behind their product.

Works great
Does what it’s suppose too even in 200 degree water

Both switches are CLOSED when positioned down., OPEN when floating.
Once I checked the resistance of each switch, I discovered that when floating, both switches were OPEN (Infinite resistance) and CLOSED (Zero ohms) when switches each switch was NOT floating. Although, I believe I can design around this , I wish a schematic or something stating the Normally Open and Normally Closed orientation was included in the description of the product. Looking for a similar structured switch with the opposite Normally Open/ Normally Closed (N.O/N.C) configuration. Gave three stars because I have yet to put switch to work.

Junk
Product looked like it was well made, with the exception of the wiring coming off it. Needless to say, it failed very. This was hooked to a normally open dry circuit, so it definitely wasn't a load issue.
