The coming of Carnage
Another comic book movie. Sequel to 2018's 'Venom.' Which featured the Marvel comic anti hero/Spider-Man foe. ,And although being a Marvel character wasn't produced by Marvel studios. Thus wasn't part of that shared cinema universe. This picks up a little after the first film and doesn't do too much to fill any new viewers in. So they would be better off starting watching that.If you have, read on.This is a fifteen certificate thanks to strong language adult moments and gory bits, like the first film. So isn't like your typical Marvel movie.Eddie and Venom still share a body. Eddie gets an interview with convicted serial killer Cletus Kasady [Woody Harrelson], and this is a chance to get his journalistic career going again. But the Eddie Venom relationship, like that of any couple, can have ups and downs. And Cletus is interested in Eddie for a reason. He has a monster inside.....Not a spoiler, thanks to the title, but Spider-Man readers will be familiar with the characters of Cletus and Carnage. Who are Eddie and Venom but much much worse. And this is their time on the big screen.I quite enjoyed this movie. Which was a bit of a surprise, given that the first film didn't quite manage to find it's tone. But this does. As a mismatched odd couple bromance rom com. In that way, the character work between Eddie and Venom is really good. And often very funny.I am not a Marvel comics reader though. If I was, I imagine I would be a bit disappointed with this. Because it doesn't really do that much with the Carnage character. Woody Harrelson does his best to be a staring eyed psycho, and it's a professional performance. But this works far better for the Eddie Venom stuff than anything else. It does though manage to skewer one potential cliche in a later moment, so I did enjoy it for that.So my four stars is very much a matter of subjective opinion. And will possibly be in the minority. But that's life. There is an extra scene during the middle of the end credits, which is worth seeing. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, Czech, Hungarian, Italian, Polish. English audio captioned.Subtitles: English, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovene. There is one extra: Let there be...action. A seven min long featurette, showing a lot of the action being filmed on set, and people talking about how it was done. It's too brief to lack substance, like a fair few featurettes, but seeing some of the action sequences as they looked before visual effects were added is quite interesting.

typical sequel
is a 2021 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the second film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe and the sequel to Venom (2018). The film was directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, based on a story she wrote with Tom Hardy, who stars as Eddie Brock and Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson. In the film, Brock and the alien symbiote Venom must face serial killer Cletus Kasady (Harrelson) after he becomes the host of an offshoot of Venom named Carnage.Venom was intended by Sony to be the start of a new shared universe, and plans for a sequel began during the production of the first film. Harrelson was cast to make a brief appearance as Kasady at the end of Venom, with the intention of him becoming the villain Carnage in the sequel. Official work on the sequel began in January 2019, with Hardy and Harrelson confirmed to return along with Marcel as a writer. Serkis was hired as a director that August, partly due to his experience working with CGI and motion capture technology, which was an important part of portraying Venom and Carnage in the film. Filming took place at Leavesden Studios in England from November 2019 to February 2020, with additional filming in San Francisco in February. The title was announced in April 2020.Venom: Let There Be Carnage premiered in London on September 14, 2021, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 1. It was delayed multiple times from an initial October 2020 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite earning less than its predecessor, the film was still a box office success and grossed over $506 million worldwide, making it the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2021. It received mixed reviews from critics, some of whom considered the film an improvement over the first film and praised the action sequences, chemistry between Brock and Venom, mid-credit scene, and performances of Hardy and Harrelson, but criticized its screenplay and short runtime. A third Venom film is in development.A slight step down from the original but is fun.
