PEAK PRODUCTS AMERICA 6452 06452 Bungee Cord, 1/4"-5/16"

I have extra bungee and needed some of these Vinyl Coated Steel Hook - 10 pack from Hampton Products Keeper #06452 to make extra Bungee chords for use holding my Stuff in the back of the Truck. They are strong and the Vinyl Coating is a good protection from rust. Just slip the end of the Bungee cord into the spring hole, knot loop the end of the cord to hold in the Hook to make a fat end and you can have a bungee the size you need. I recommend to double the size you think you need and loop the bungee rather than just hook it from end to end and remove the bungee as soon as you can, to allow it to return to it's normal size. Keep them out of the sun when not in use, if you want them to last.

When I buy Bungee cord I look for hooks like these. With the hooks and a roll of 3/8" bungee cord, I now make my only at the length I need. The 3/8" cord is the right size for these hooks. You have to screw the hooks on to the cord end. After you get the hook on a little past the end, you can pull the cord thought to the length you want. I then U the end and use a zip tie to hold it. Use a Width: 0.30 inches or 7.6 mm or wider, UV Resistant zip tie. That will give you a tensile strength of 120 Lbs. The cord I use is; SGT KNOTS DiamondGrip Shock (bungee) Cord 3/8" x 50ft. I bought a batch of mixed bag bungee cords on here the other day, and realized when I got them that the very long ones were useless to me. So I got these and cut the longer cords in three and four different sections and remade them into shorter cords. Problem solved. I used hog rings on the cords to act as "knots" on the cords to keep the waste of the cord in the knot as short as possible. You may need the longer ones, but if you don't, this is a nice way to make them more useful to you.They are a single wire on the hook, which is better for working with tarps. I've found the grommet holes in the tarps are a bit small to force the double wire hooks into.

You get what you pay for here. They seem to be strong hooks for light applications but I was not happy with the way the end of the hook is not polished up a bit. If you touch the end of the hook it seems they are rough and unfinished. I had problems with this when I was hooking to hooks made of cloth at the edge of my pool cover. Every time (if I am not careful) I loop the hooks on the cloth end they would snag and tare a piece of cloth. It seems to me that such a small thing as to smooth out the end of the hooks would go a long way to safety. Not only would it not catch on other objects you are hooking up to and scratch them they would not scratch you if you mishandle them improperly. Next time I would not mind paying a bit more for better finished hooks.

You can by bungee in big reels and just cut the size you need , tie a knot or 2 in the ends and you have a custom length bungee cord at a good price . It really is easy to use .

These are excellent heavy duty hook for when one is making up their own bungee cords or for repairing one. Be sure to have or get some hog rings to secure the cord within the hook with minimal cord 'clutter' inside the hook device. Just put the hook over the cord end and push it back onto the cord, double over the end of the cord and put it in hog ring and secure with pliers. Only a very small amount of cord is used to double over so there isn't a big knot in the bottom part of the hook.

These hooks are stronger and larger than I had expected...a good thing! They are perfect for use with 1/4 inch bungee cord. I expect them to last a long time. Using them with 1/4 inch SGT KNOTS marine grade shock cord, which I also highly recommend! It is great to be able to make bungee cords the size that works best for each situation!

These hooks were solid and a good value for the price. I used them with some bungee cord that I purchased to create straps for keeping my patio table cover on during the winter months. We've had several windy rain storms and one light snowfall and so far so good.
