Leaked nonstop. Barely lasted one use.
Upon first use after seasoning, I lost 3/4 of the contents through a slow leak in the spigot. When time for a second use, I found the staves had split and everything I poured in instantly spilled back out through the sides. Definitely not worth the trouble.

IT does the job
I love whisk(e)y. I love old fashions, manhattans, and other drinks made with whisky. I also love sipping good whisky neat. My first batch with the barrel was to put some Jim Beam in it. I am talking the basic, $20 for 1.75 litre bottle of Jim Beam that I only use for everyday type drinks. For instance, I will use this to make old fashions on a weeknight before dinner. So i filled up the barrel with this (after doing the preparations listed in the instructions--make sure you do that!). I tasted a sip every two or three days over a four-week period. At the end of four weeks, it tasted like good sip-able whisky, not anything to get all excited about, but certainly enjoyable. I would think that leaving it in there another 8 weeks (for a total of 12) would make it quite good. The next batch was to take the barrel-aged Jim Beam and make a batch of old fashions. I then filled the barrel back up with this and let it age another 4 weeks. Not bad at all. As good or better than the barrel-aged drinks you get at a bar.For the third batch, I started with the basic Jim Beam again, but this time I am going to let stay in there for 8 weeks. Still have 4 more weeks to go on that, so will have to let you know....

Oak Bomb
Two days filled with blanco tequila, and you get marked color, as dark as iced tea. I put a bland blanco into the 1 Liter barrel. It came out tasing like brand new, fresh cut oak kitchen cabinets, and I was looking for sawdust residues when I finished the glass. Since I don't actually know what's "right" when it comes to barrel aging, I'm just going to say the flavor introduced is very new Oak. It is certainly flavoring any liquids added with OAK, OAK, and more OAK.So, now I am adding cheap Black Velvet whiskey to it to try and pull more of the oak out and imbue some whiskey notes to the little barrel. The barrel will hopefully mellow out. I plan to use it to make blander blanco tequilas more interesting.
