Peace of mind with our pup!
Really happy with this gate. I purchased the gate to block the steps to the yard on our back deck so we could put the dog outside without worry of her running off. She's a large Doberman but doesn't try to run into/get under the gate so I can't speak to how it works if the dog is an escape artist, but we're super happy with it. You definitely need 2 hands to open and close the gate. A few reviews mentioned the gate was easily opened and even unhooked by the wind. That is NOT the case with ours at all. Once it's latched it requires 2 hands to pull and slide the gate's hooks out of the brackets. Very secure in my experience. The gate is very easy to remove from the wall brackets and move to another location if you wanted to install 2 sets of brackets and move the gate based on your needs.**A note on Customer Service**I also wanted to add what great customer service I received. Our gate worked great for a couple weeks and then all of the sudden stopped pulling out all the way as if there was a jam or something. I emailed the company to ask about what to do and they immediately put a new gate in the mail free of charge. Would definitely recommend based on the product and knowing that the company will take care of any issues you encounter!

Great product, but be aware...
Be aware that the supplied screws are very low quality. Before installing, take the time to get some good screws from your tool box or go to the hardware store and buy some. The cross section of the supplied screws smashes very easily with a drill or screwdriver. To make it worse, as soon as I clicked the gate into place, two of the screw heads popped off leaving the screws flush with the wall. I was forced to snap the remaining screw heads off ( I couldn't back them out as the cross section was smashed.) I was able to move the connectors over a quarter inch and, using quality screws, reinstall. Aside from that, the whole thing works great. It looks nice, is sturdy and is out of the way when not in use. As some have said, the locking mechanism is a little awkward, but once you get the hang of it, it's just fine. Without a lock, a small child would be able to open the gate, so it's needed. I do recommend this product. Just take my word for it, toss the screws it comes with and use quality ones. You will save yourself a headache.

EXCELLENT GATE
We love this gate!!! As both, my husband and I were reading through the comments we became a bit worried about this or that. Turns out, there are a ton of people who don't understand instructions. The gate took about 30 minutes to install. My husband is extremely handy though. Everything that said would be provided was there and all in great shape. The extra spacers were very important for where we installed at the top of the steps. You will need 2 hands to operate the gate opened and closed but if you didn't, it wouldn't be sturdy. After latching closed, I would suggest pushing on the gate slightly to be sure it has locked again so there is no give. It should automatically do this, but if it is not evenly taught between the top and the bottom latches (which is an installment issue not the product) then it may not lock immediately. You need to twist the lock to unwind it and again to unlock it. I can't see any toddler being able to open this. It is very strong and a great space saver, which at the top of the steps is a must. Right after I purchased it I received an email from the owner of the company letting me know that if I wasn't 100% satisfied they would fix it in any way they could. I did end up requesting 3 more spacers because of where we had installed it. They sent out 5 more within the next few days!

This is a really unique baby gate. We use it in our kitchen because we like to have that door way open most of the time. The latching on this is harder to use than most baby gates: there is a switch that you have to twist on one side that lets you unroll or roll the gate, which is a maneuver you have to perform from the other side. If you under-pull, you have to twist the switch again. So I would use this for spaces where you don't want to latch/unlatch quickly multiple times. It's soft though. I hated the metal ones, my daughter was always bumping her head. It can be used in wider areas than most gates. And I love it for the kitchen which we keep open 80% of the time. I like not having to latch and unlatch the old gate or having to squeeze through a tiny opening and over a bar.

Has it's good / bad points
We purchased this to keep our 2 Beagles out of our kitchen and it was very easy to install. We got this in Dec 2018, and when it unrolls to hook into place it "squeaks". Fast forward to June 2019 and it still squeaks, but now we are having a problem getting it unrolled all the way because it sticks when it's almost at the point we need to hook it. I'm not sure if putting WD40 on it would be a good idea or if it would mess things up. It does keep the dogs out of the kitchen99% of the time however they have realized they can go under it if we aren't around! LOLOriginally I was going to give this 5 stars (but waited a few months to see if we really liked it) so I'm glad I did because I would really give it 3 stars at this point. Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't totally break.

Best Inexpensive Option for wide openings
This gate was confusing to put up because it has a top and bottom. Plus you have to make sure to use the correct hardware on the correct side. BUT all things considered this is a great gate for dogs or even babies. After 7 months the corner of the side that latches is showing some wear because you have to really twist and push it out of the hooks after unlocking roller each time. Definitely baby proof!!!

The difference are in their mechanics like how easy to open or close and looks
Our house is on a hill and lots of stairs. So I’ve tried several retractable gates and at the end of the day, they’re there to serve a couple of years or more and they all do the job. The difference are in their mechanics like how easy to open or close and looks. This one is my favorite even compared to some of the more expensive ones. It’s mechanics are a bit better, like the handle and release button are easier to grab and pull than the more expensive ones I got and it has a lower profile. I’m in the process of replacing some of the older worn out ones with this gate as well. Not only it helps with a piece of mind with a toddler that doesn’t know what slowing down means, it works for my dog too which ironically doesn’t know how to slow down either.
