A great starter laser engraver for the price with upgrade potential to boot.
Very pleased with this unit. Using the video assembly guide had it assembled in about four hours. There were some spare parts that I think were intended for loss or breakage during assembly. Very pleased with the structural design as it is very sturdy. The X and Y movements glide easily with bearings at each of the idler assemblies. Also pleased to find that the print area was bigger than I had thought. I might not ever use that much space but it is large enough to create a nice picture engraving. One thing to note is that after installing the software I downloaded and installed the drivers for the CH340. Then the software kicked in and worked just fine. While testing the laser I just put several regular sheets of printing paper down. Mildly surprised to find that it had cut through two layers and left print on the third. Not bad for a 1.6W. My original intention however was to use this sturdy frame and upgrade to a higher rated laser.

Breaks instantly, Software isnt compatable with Mac or RPI like the ad states
There is zero support from the company on tech or software issues. It advertises compatability with Mac, Windows, and Rpi, Rpi is not at all compatable, and the software for mac wont install or load as they are not an Apple recognised developer. Which means it isnt compatable with either. Now I have a $400 PaperweightBought 2 new Motor drivers to fix the burnt out ones on my Laserbot. Within 5 hours of installing them the heatsinks fell off, within another couple hours, when i started actually running the laser engraver, both the brand new Motor Drivers burnt out and stopped working, now i have to order more and wait another month to get them as they come from China. I need that laser to do pieces for my business, cant be bothered with subpar drivers and chipsets. Might have to switch the board to an arduino because Makeblock stuff breaks or stops working very quickly. (So far I have had to replace 1 track, 1 motor, I have replaced the Megapi Motor driver board and CPU 3 times, replaced the drivers twice and the laser once. I have owned the laserbot for a year and only had it run properly 5 times, every time if works something on it breaks

Unfortunate
I received the unit promptly and in excellent condition. It took approximately 3.5 hour to assemble. I was impressed with the physical quality of the unit. Assembly was relatively easy with the video instructions. The reason for only 2 stars is that I have spent since 8:30 this morning (it is now 1:40 p.m.) trying to find/load an English version of the setup software. Unfortunately it will only download in Chinese even though I have downloaded it from the EN version of their site. There is no help desk of resource for troubleshooting.I cannot even test the unit. If this cannot be resolved in short order I will be returning the unit due to the complete lack of customer support.

This frame with Arduino UNO GRBL Card = AMAZING
Burning awesome photos!! I bought what appears to be the last one in stock, back in March 2018. I replaced the black plastic brackets that hold the wheels on, with aluminum ones because the plastic cracked easy. I used an aluminum sheet rock square and chopped pieces off that. It was the same diameter and thickness. I replaced the control card with an Arduino Uno card with a GRBL cnc Shield 1.1. I am using GRBL Laser free software to burn images. Makeblock, I can help you promote your laser, just show folks my photos.

The software is very finicky. At this point I am just using the frame. I replaced the board and the laser. I wanted to use g code and their board can't use pure code.

Great little hobby laser
I was looking for a small hobby laser before making a larger investment in a CO2 laser. A lot of the diode driven laser are around 500mw which is not that powerful, barely will cut thin paper. I came across this one and with its 1.6w diode laser was a great start to experiment with laser engraving. The kit arrived and unpacking it was easy. The instructions for assembling are on a video, and there is limited directions with the kit. At first I thought this was odd, but the video has all the detail you need. The kit comes with spare parts for screws etc and it's straightforward to build took me bout 3hrs in total. The hardest part, well more fiddly was the assembly of the laser runner carriage. But other than that it was easy to assemble. If I had to pick one thing that lets this kit down is the software, I had issues getting it running in a Mac, it did worked ok on Windows 10. You will need to install the USB 2 serial driver (check out learn.makebot.com/megapi for locations for the driver) for it to work. I hope to see updates on the mLaser software to improve it. But it's workable. If you expect this to do everything you see a CO2 laser do, then you won't be happy. This will only engrave or mark wood. It's great to learn about lasers and the make block kit is a please try experience into Computer controlled machines. You also don't need any water cooling but domuse in a well ventilated area.If the software was better I would give it a 5.

it works great.
It took a little time to put this together with my 8 year old, but once it was together, it works great.

Great experience putting it together
Great experience putting it together......I've downloaded Mlaser from 3 different place and everyone of them is in Chinese. Yet find answer, pretty worthless without the software.

Disappointing and Dangerous
I'm unhappy with this purchase. I didn't realize how intricate assembly was, coupled with there are NO written instructions ANYWHERE only a 7 minute video that does not provide enough detail to assemble things like the circuit board. This took over 3 hrs to build (I'm sure it would be less if I didn't have to keep replaying parts over and over of the video to stop on the information long enough) it doesn't provide any information like where to put wires so they don't interfere with operation so after you guess about that and it's all together then to disconnect and reconnect again until it's right. Then to find the motor shipped was wired wrong.Oh! And there's NO EMERGENCY SHUTOFF it went rouge and BURNED my table, with no quick way to turn off the machine. It also doesn't sit flat on the table. The worst part is it took 3 hours to find out that it was defective...

Bent metal...
At first I was wondering why the unit wasn’t leveled. So I took it apart and put it together again ... then I noticed that both thin aluminum bars were bent off center... where is the QC/ QA. When you need them... not what I was expecting in a so called “easy to assemble” kit. Heck, I've build CNC and 3D printers that are easier to put together than this kit. The CS support wasn’t great either...They don’t have info about this kit directly on their website and can’t or don’t sell extra parts. Warning: A very expensive “laser shield” is required! (OD 3+ min. // ~$300, not sold on Amazon) due to Canadian Gov. laser regulations // FYI: the laser is 445nm...The included non certified laser glasses broke the first try. They are not very flexible and the size seems to be for children... a replacement pair goes for $35 to $160 (depending if you want cheap or certified)

Don't bother buying it because the software you have to download the not work at all
Product is pretty good took awhile to put together but looks good when it is together... As far as software goes can't get it to download no matter what I try not impressed total waste of my time and money
