Good read...Interesting perspective
This is an enjoyable book about the war from a different perspective than most I've read. Easier to relate to from a civilian perspective in a lot of way. It's well written and entertaining and at the same time, gives you something to think about. The author is not a career soldier and has no ax to grind with the military...nor does he glorify service. This is just his experiece with war mostly from behind a lens. Some of the things he relates (about his leisure activities especially) could get on R rating on the screen because of content...a bit TMI...and language but would be fine for adults. I plan to buy more books by this author whenever they come out.....I'm sure he can make other subjects just as interesting.

A gentle exposure to behind the scenes
My son is on his first deployment, this helped me with a view from the field. As a civilian and. Mom I want to be supportive and this will help me understand how he might feel. Marine Corps but serving your country in all branches must feel similar. Thanks to the author for reliving and sharing

Every American should read this book
Fred writes from the heart. He takes you places that nobody deserves to be. He makes you feel empathy and brings a better understanding to the warriors and heroes that protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. He does it with emotion and care. His quick to read style makes this book a MUST read!

Gives a different prespective to our soldier lives tha what is portrayed here
Since photography is one of my hobbies I purchased this book to read thinking it would be interesting to read about a war photographer. It was that plus a lot more. It gave me an insight into the life of our soldier over seas and the daily battles that they have to face. A few of the stories told also show what the living conditions are for people in these countries that we are trying to help. After reading it I have a different appreciation for our soldier and what they go through daily when they are on active duty over seas. Well worth reading.

No photographs in Kindle edition
I have only read the first few chapters, and am disappointed to see that there are actually no photographs as described in the book description. Instead, you get a little graphic showing three tiny cameras, where (one would assume) one or more photographs would have been inserted. I have lots of other Kindle books with photographs embedded. Why not this one, since it is explicitly about a cameraman in combat?? Disappointing!

Truth to be Told
I want to thank you from the depth of my heart for sharing this truth. People like me that have never been to war need to know the truth first hand what really goes on behind enemy lines. I was there with you and cried with you. There is not words to describe what I felt. Now, I know a small speck of what you experienced. If only the news media would tell the truth. These people that bad mouth our soldiers being there it should be MANDATORY for them to be on the front lines like our soldiers so they can experience first hand. Then we would hear a different story from them.I want to thank you personally and every soldier defending my rights and freedom for my entire family.God Bless, Frances

Interesting Story, No Pictures
So I didn't finish this book because the Kindle edition that I purchased did not have viewable pictures. I tried reading it both on my Kindle Keyboard and on the Kindle app for PC. Both readers just displayed small camera icons where the images should be. Overall, I thought it was fairly well written; however, much of the writing is based on the pictures that are not included. Hopefully Amazon will fix this.

Interesting - but not for younger readers. Not recommended
Interesting story, crude and unrealistic at times...but then again, war is nothing but pain, suffering and needless innocent casualties. Poor example of military discipline, especially for NCO's. I do not recommend this book.
