Absolutely Delighted To Receive These Rice Basket!
I recently discovered that Laos/Thai sticky rice is best contained in woven baskets that are specifically designed for this purpose. I sought out various vendors offering what, to me, was a combination of attractive, appealing workmanship together with the practical function of keeping the rice warm & readily accessible to everyone at the table. This purchase is beautiful & most practical; there are 3 containers, small, medium & larger. Can’t wait to put them to use this weekend - thanks very much!

I've decided to turn to Amazon to find this particular item in a larger size since I haven't came across an Asian market that sells them in other sizes than a small. I'm Thai so sticky rice is a must have for me and my family. Yes, it did came with a smoky smell. I checked with my aunt since she was born in Thailand and she said they smoke it to make the product stronger as well as to keep the bugs off while drying but is perfectly safe to store rice in. Soak the baskets all day, changing out the water frequently, and leave in to soak all night. Me, having two little ones to feed too, wasn't going to chance it being safe as is so I had to soak it. Smoky smell got me feeling a little skeptic. Don't like my rice to smell like that. I soaked all of the baskets, changing out the water often, and it works! No more smoky smell. By the way, the smallest one is used to pack up to take with you for lunch. It's what I do with some grilled chicken or homemade beef jerky with some homemade Thai hot dipping sauce. ;)
