Exactly what I was looking for.
This is exactly what was needed to re-pot my orchids. Excellent quality. I did mix a bit of regular potting soil in with the mix to help hold a bit more moisture. For my orchids this works best. Only wish I had ordered more than one bag. It goes quickly.

Great potting mix for my orchid collection
I have about a dozen orchids, mostly phalaenopsis, but a couple other varieties as well. When you buy them, they usually have cheap moss or other filling and once they're done blooming, it's time for repotting (and sometimes dividing.) There are great videos on youtube.com if you need help with either.Phalaenopsis require weekly saturation, but don't like wet roots, so they need good drainage. A tip I learned at an orchid show was to make sure they are in good potting mix, in a pot with numerous large drainage holes at the bottom and to put them in your sink and spray with your sprayer until fully soaked, careful to try to avoid the crown of the plant (do it in the morning so they have time to dry.) This potting mix is great for that because it has a good blend of pine bark and what seems to be charcoal. All the orchids I've repotted with this seem to be doing great and some have even re-bloomed. It's easy enough to work with and will repot somewhere between 5-7 5" pots, depending on how big your roots are.I also use the MiracleGro orchid fertilizer every other week, so I do the shower one week and then the fertilizer the next. However, the MiracleGro orchid mix is too much like soil to be good for orchids. I've bought this before and I'll be ordering it again. My flowers seem happy and content and my windowsill is beautiful :-)

Works great on large epiphytic bromeliads/tillandias too
I bought this for my tillandsia cyanea as I've seen and read that they can be potted and using orchid bark mix works well for them.It has bloomed and now it has produced an offset since I had repotted it!I do have orchids but I prefer a different growing method for them.8/24/2017 update: I ended repotting most of my older and newer orchids in orchid mix. Also, I have tried the Better-Gro Phalaenopsis Orchid mix and their mix has unnecessary ingredients like peat moss and perlite. It gets super messy and dusty once you get to the bottom of the bag. I prefer Hoffman's Special course orchid mix with NO perlite.

Designed for tree orchids
I purchased this to re pot my phaleanopolis orchids thinking that this was a general purpose mix. It is quite coarse and has no peat moss but is a collection of wood bark chunks. My orchids do seem to be putting out new roots--which is good. However, this seems rather a specialized potting medium and there was no indication that it was on Amazon

Excellent for people in Louisiana and lower Florida
This is obviously quality stuff. As mentioned in other reviews, the bark is rather largely chunked and makes for beautiful soil cover for other plants. However, due to the size of the bark/wood chips, I cannot recommend this mix for phals unless you live in a swamp or a humidor. It's impossible to maintain sufficient humidity in a normal house, let alone a sky rise building with a heating system seemingly designed to kill its inhabitants with static electricity alone. I have a humidifier that I use around my orchids, and even then I'm seeing instant root shriveling around the drainage holes. Oh, the irony. While I am a black-thumbed beginner, it's impossible to ignore my orchid's distress. Not to mention that 2 hours after I soak my phal, the bark is bone dry through and through (and weirdly dusty, to add insult to injury). And I need to pay rent, too, you know? I already come home from work to the accusing looks of my cats whose water evaporated while I was gone and they had to drink out of the toilet (12 ounces gone in 8 hours - I was not exaggerating my building's War on Water). I don't want to add shriveled roots to the list.I'll be making a mix of this orchid bark/charcoal with New Zealand sphagnum moss once my phal drops her flowers. Hopefully that will achieve the appropriate water retention:drainage I'm looking for.

Great Orchid Potting mix
Many orchids purchased while in bloom are potted in an inferior mix of spahgnum moss and styrofoam peanuts. The orchids usually die off after blooming unless repotted in a proper mix. Orchid roots do not like wet feet. Other orchid potting mixes hold in too much moisture, however, Hoffman's Orchid potting mix promotes proper drainage after the orchids are watered.
