Hit and steamy
What a roller coaster story.two time lines.this is one of my favorite tropes, when the leads are childhood sweethearts and separate due to some reason and then reunite.I thought the author would have a tough time creating a character more interesting than Max.Bronson exceeded my expectations. He was very different from Max in many ways .His had an appropriate nickname Nut case .Totally apt .he was loyal to the core, mad completely but lovable. His love for shoshana was out of this universe.Shoshanna, what a unique name.she was much likeable than Cassidy .Don't want to give any more spoilers.Loved their story totally ,completely n madly.steamy n hot .Want another Butcher boy story soon

Emotional erotica
✨SPOILER ALERT✨Our thing and Cosa nostra by Nicci HarrisStrictly 18+ 🥵🔥TW:-Sexual assault, violence, abuse, gore, blood, deathOof🥵🔥 I'll call this EMOTIONAL EROTICA than mafia romance👩❤️👨I loved Moody Broody Max and Cute Clever Cassidy❤️More than anyone else,I resonated with Toni because just like him,I'm the go-to person for innuendos in my friends circle so much so that if I'm being serious, people are still trying to figure out what's the joke there😂Bronson's character somehow tells me he has a deep ache and profound grief that makes him mask himself with humor and sarcasm🥺🤧"You're an asset. Leverage. This is what they do. It's the long game. It doesn't look that bad at first, which is how you miss it. It's a favour. It's a kindness. It's a sponsorship. But then they have claws in every part of your life and one day, you sit up and wonder how you’d gotten in so deep. . ."Shudder right?Ch30 of book1 Our thing, deserves special mention because until then the story was oscillating between romance and the sneak peeks of mafia in the District and what secrets lay therein..but this chapter...this chapter explained "A thief is a criminal until he's stealing to feed his kin. A neglectful mother is a bad mother until she is working two jobs to give her children the best opportunities. A gun is terrifying until it's what's keeping you safe, and then you're terrified without it." which Cassidy thinks in a chapter long before this one...The way she was frozen but later stood up for herself and like desperate times call for desperate measures?,she just did it!I loved her more in this chapter.Okay,so I wanted to review this yesterday but saw that book 2 Cosa nostra, was right there after book1,so....here I am!I cried after Carter's story😭I cried during chapters 31&32 as wellSooo,Nicci are you fond of those chapter numbers or what?I loved that the penalty wasn't overridden by using influence. That was the real test of love,to endure,to wait, although love shouldn't be tested, should be cherished.Lastly,DO NOT bring your feminist brain here,it's for your closet romantic with grey areas.

I am a BUTCHER girl!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Max and Cassidy! This was my first time reading Nicci Harris and can I just say I would like to order myself a Max Butcher please! I am a huge fan of mafia romance and a nice good girl bad boy romance so this was IT for me!Max - ugghh swoon worthy Max! He is everything a girl desires - LITERALLY! So handsome, confident and has a smexy mouth on him. He's protective, possessive and jealous and has a vulnerable side to him that only Cassidy can see and on rare occasions his brothers. He's attracted to Cassidy, but tries to stay away from her until she tries to give a part of her to someone else (ENTER jealous and possessive Max) he shows a different side of him to Cassidy which is beautiful! In Max's words to Cassidy - "you soften my life" (MY HEARRRRT)Cassidy - young and naive but confident and knows exactly what she wants. She wants Max and she finds a way to get him. Her character development is beautiful - from having a crush on Max, to falling in love with him - she matures appropriately throughout the novel. She knows Max does bad things but she still loves him and grounds him.HEANo cheatinggrumpy/sunshine

"A Flawless contemporary romance."
Reading the Kids of the District series feels like gorging on a deliciously scrumptious cake, despite knowing it's gonna be bad and hurt you irrevocably in the end, you just cannot help yourself from devouring it. Like an addict, you keep coming back to satiate the need to escape into the district.I honestly do not know what "evil genius mastermind" class Nicci Harris took but I need to book a spot because this series is deceptively clever. The build-up of Cassidy and Max's relationship is a refined agony, honed throughout the previous book and unleashed with a ferocity only Nicci could create.Nicci Harris has created something powerfully dark and mesmerizing within the district that is equal parts exciting and disturbing. She shines in crafting novels that toe the line between dark and dangerous, and sweet and sexy, which culminates into a deliciously sinful story of passion, truth, and acceptance. The characters are charismatic with bold personalities that tug at your heartstrings. I quite enjoyed the contrast between Cassidy, the district's sweetheart, and the total alpha male vibe from the district's most notorious bad boy Max Butcher. "The Duet" is good girl meets bad boy, District style and I loved every minute of it.Max is the quintessential bad boy mafia- alpha and while I loved how raw and carnal his character was, my favorite moments were the quiet spaces in between, where he allowed himself to be vulnerable (or at least attempted to) for Cassidy.I enjoyed the complexity of Cassidy's character and the tremendous growth she's made throughout the series. The district's darling has seen the seedy underbelly of Max's reality and the dark encounters threaten to consume her entirely. As she picks up the broken puzzle pieces of her life and begins arranging them, Cassidy truly begins to mature and I couldn't help but tear up to see my little girl all grown up.I relish the elevated romance within The Duet as the lines between love, desire, and obsession begin to blur creating an eruption of forbidden passion and ecstasy. Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart."The story-building and writing is sharp with just the right amount of humor to balance out the dastardly setting that is the district. As with her previous book, Nicci Harris focuses strongly on the theme of family. Her depiction of the mafia and the commitments and struggles of those "in" the lifestyle are raw and honest.Just when I thought my poor heart couldn't take another beating you reached through the pages, ripped it out, and ran it through the grinder shredding me completely.I mean, holy plot twist! The last couple of chapters honestly floored me with an overwhelming surge of emotions. This duet is the epitome of exquisite torture and I am unashamed to admit that I ugly cried. While I finally got my answers from book one, I couldn't help the crushing sense of finality that comes with the end.In true Nicci fashion, she doesn't give you the ending you've been dreaming about and wishing on a star for, oh no, that would be too humane, instead, she serves it up true District style with an intricately woven finale that is equal parts raw, messy complicated and oddly fulfilling. The Kids of the District is not your average story, but then as a reader, do you really want that?I would recommend this series for those who enjoy dark, contemporary romance with a twist. Thanks to the author for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review

I need more Max and Cassidy
This story had me up late at night reading. I was telling myself last chapter and then I'll sleep and continue in the morning. But no, I couldn't put it down!!! This is one of the best Mafia books ever. And the Butcher Boys...🔥🔥🔥 Dang!! They are hotter than hot. Just wished this could get to be a series/film on TV. I need it to be on TV. The author did a amazing job writing these characters that became family, thank you for that Nicci Harris.
