I have very thick and smooth hair, so I've had a lifetime of challenges in finding hair accessories that will keep my hair in place. This barrette does the trick: The hollow space is just enough to accommodate my hair, the teeth have a good grip, spring action is smooth, stays on all day. Would definitely buy product again.

As you see by photo, the upper clip prongs extend too long. Very thick hair or a thickly rolled twist would be fine, but otherwise the prongs hurt the scalp as they are hard plastic. Well made though, but definitely not what I needed. I gave to others with much thicker hair who put up in thick twists.

These are so comfortable. I love using them to twist my hair up or pulling it back for a cute ponytail.

I've used hair clips from this brand before and been pretty happy with them. This is a new styleof clip for me, and I wasn't sure if it would work out in my hair or not. I have super long, fine, thin, slippery, annoying hair, and most "claw" style clips haven't been able to "hold" my hair.These do seem to work. I was able to fold my hair up and clip all of it from the side. These clips have long tines on the bottom that stab deep into the hair from underneath, and this really seems to help. Also, I think there is some magic with the curved shape that makes a difference. Whatever the case, they're holding my hair pretty well, so I'm happy.I was also able to do a ponytail and a polyanna, but it was a lot less successful. It helps to divide your hair into two parts and roll the two halves in towards each other before you clip it, otherwise the hair tends to "leak" out the side of the clips.These are sturdy and well-made. The plastic is dense and smooth and the jaws/spring are extremely strong. The colors cover most of the bases for hair color and style choices. There's black, brown, cream, orange, burgundy, and olive green. I'd love a bright red one, or maybe navy blue! Overall, a pretty decent product.

I wasn't sure if I would like these in person. I'm not sure why, but maybe they look a little like five thin fingers stretched out on the hair! However, in person, I do like them.What type of updos do they work for? I have long, layered hair, and am able to clip up all my hair with one. That being said, it's not a super roomy fit, so if you have really thick hair or super long hair, it might be better for partial updos. It works for me for both, which I think is a perfect type clip, being more versatile.Also, I just have to mention how much I like the jelly candy colorway. I wasn't sure if I'd like it, until I reviewed something else with this colorway. It's really cute and fun; a bit translucent.The docked star is because they came a bit scuffed up in spots. Not badly, but they have some small areas of scuffing. Also, the upper teeth can dig in a bit when I do a partial updo, so they aren't as comfortable as some clips. Because a clip is open more with a full updo, the comfort is only an issue with a partial updo for me.
