Inspiring overview of all types of cycling, full of helpful tips and tricks
An ideal gift for any cyclist full of helpful advice and practical hints, whether you are just starting out or have been riding for ages. This well illustrated book is very easy to pick up and browse through. The successful 1001 tips format encourages you to flick through rather than solidly read the book from cover to cover. There are little gems scattered throughout the book based on Hannah Reynolds many years of riding all sorts of bicycles. The 1001 tips are broadly divided between cycling basics, cycling life, fitness, navigation, cycle touring and gadgets, with helpful sections on all the main cycling disciplines. Some sections read more like conventional chapters than others but all have useful insights, particularly related to nutrition, fitness and preparing for a trip. The light-hearted writing style and short paragraph format encourage regular browsing.I have really enjoyed regularly returning to this book and I expect several cycling friends of mine will be getting a copy for their next birthday!

Recommended for new or returning cyclists.
This is a large book; I'd maybe class it as a coffee table book. Some of the tips may state the obvious for some people, but if you are new to cycling, I don't think it's a bad thing to make sure you are not missing a key point of information; one that might change your view of cycling and make it more enjoyable for you. Getting the bike fit correct, or knowing which bike is appropriate for your needs, is a fundamental thing and the book covers tips on this very well. The book is split into sections, from bike buying to maintenance, the different reasons for cycling - fitness, travel and just plain fun, and all the different sorts of bike and the types of riding you can do on them (even indoors). Whilst there are a couple of practical illustrations in the bike maintenance and roadcraft sections, most of the photographs are generic cycling photos - nice, but not that pertinent to the book's content. There are some good practical tips on how to manage cycling to work; considerations are quite different when your destination is not your own home. This is an ideal book for anyone new to cycling, or those returning to it after a while, but even the most seasoned cyclist will find some facts they do not know. The role of technology in cycling - GPS, heart rate monitoring, apps, is covered well, but also the appreciation of sitting up and smelling the roses. Recommended.

Easy to read with tips for all cyclists
As an experience cyclist indulging in road, touring and mountain biking I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. At times I smiled and laughed. Sometimes I nodded knowingly and other times raised my eyebrows to say “well I didn’t know that”. Although there is some repetition of tips this book has something for every reader from beginner to expert or cycling wannabe to touring guru. The text is broken up by colourful and inspirational pictures painting a realistic view of cycling's many facets which allows the reader to dream of their next adventure. I read the book from cover to cover but it would be easy to dip in and out as one sees fit. There are, as stated, 1001 tips separated into chapters and sensible sections which are extremely easy to flick though. It is a book to learn from, be inspired by and to have on your coffee table!

An amusing and helpful guide
An excellent and comprehensive book, divided into sections which allow you to pick a topic to delve into. Whether you're a roadie looking for cyclo-cross tips or planning your first dose of real training or a bike-packing trip, this book is packed with tips that will help you out.I particularly appreciated the section on maintenance and repairs, which has always seemed a bit of a mystery... And the practical advice that sometimes you really do just need to go to a bike shop! The author's humour shines through in numerous anecdotes and tips which are clearly written from (sometimes rueful!) personal experience. There's not even a hint of elitism here, the book is pitched such that almost any cyclist can get more out of their own cycling, whatever discipline they favour.
