I purchased this for my girlfriend. As a LEO, I am very familiar with ASP products. All ASP products I have used have been of the highest quality, and this is no exception. The Key Defender is essentially a kubaton style tool, with the added functionality of pepper spray. I can assure you the formulation used by ASP in their Defender products is effective. Upon receiving the Key Defender, the packaging was in good shape, standard ASP retail packaging with excellent instructions. Included was a high quality split ring, in case you want to attach it to your keys. This configuration makes for a formidable flail type weapon as well. The unit is constructed with high quality aircraft aluminum, and operation is easy, even under stress. A simple flip of the safety ring and depress the rear button. This is not to say it does not take practice. With any tool you may use in stressful situations practice is necessary. I suggest purchasing a couple of inert canisters sold by ASP to practice with if you are unfamiliar with the Key Defender.I did deduct one star because the range on this is relatively short. An effective range of approximately 5-6 feet is pretty close. But, the reality is that is likely the range it would be deployed in during an attack by a person or dog. The spray is delivered in a cone, making it prone to deflection by wind, but in a close deployment, this is less of a concern.Overall, my girlfriend likes it. She stated it was too big for her liking to attach to her keys, but carries it in her hand when she walks to her car from her office. I highly recommend this product.

I haven't had to use it, so I don't know if I love it or hate it for protection.As far as carrying it daily, I like the size, the color is nice - although just a few months in it's starting to rub off a little bit where it bangs into my keys. It is a bit long, and it dangles from my ignition and lays along the outside of my knee when I drive, but it hasn't gotten in my way at all. It's a good size to fit into a back pocket (too big for my front pockets), it feels comfortable to hold, and unless I tell them, so far nobody has thought it's a pepper spray baton. My friends all think it's a flashlight until I tell them otherwise.

This is my second Key Defender. I had my first one for over 10 years (on reccomendation from a police officer) before I lost it. I never had the occasion to use the spray, and I hape I never do. I like the fact that the unit does not look like a spray can. It is very comforting to have it in my hand when going to and from my car. This product is very well made. After 10 years in my purse, in my hand, in my pocket, the flip out 'trigger' never flipped out. If you order a Key Defender, Palm Defender or Street Defender you will not be disappointed. Get the practice canister to get the feel of how the unit works under fire.

ASP EVERY TIME. Two weapons in one! Safety first and always be aware. I am a woman an I teach a class with the NRA “REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM.” I care small weapons on me everywhere. One being the ASP OC SPRAY. The key being is to always be aware of your surroundings.

I am not going to give this a test run! I can say shipping was fast and the product looks great so hopefully will never have to use it but in my purse just in case
