Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica, Third Edition 3rd Edition

There's an index in the back for each under: latin name, pinyin name, condition. Each herb contains Pharmaceutical name, Family, Species,names in Japanese, Korean, English, the text in which it first appeared, properties, channels entered, key characteristics, dosage, cautions and contraindications, actions and indications, combinations, preparation, toxicity, quality criteria, etc...and the list goes on. It's a wonderful study guide as well as a reference guide. The cover is leather-like and the paper is fine/thin because there are over a thousand pages (similar to a bible).

This is the updated version of the classic Chinese herb text that is most widely used in America for non-Asian practitioners. I like this portable version that it uses the high quality dictionary grade very thin paper to achieve its smaller compact size without losing any content of the hard cover and bigger 3rd ed. The digital version is also available but I like real book.

Required for class. Teacher commended me for buying this version specifically because the paper is strong enough to be able to take notes and not worry about tearing. But it's heavy. Brought it to school once and hope I don't have to again!

Incredible detail. Very well organized and written. Wish the illustrations had color, but can always look up images on the internet.

I love this book. The soft cover reminds me of my Bible actually. It's comprehensive, easy to use, and very well written. I would love to see this in a 3 ring binder or spiral bound in the future if at all possible because as a student, it is often that I am needing to reference a page for a long time or highlighting and would like other options.

This is a huge book. There are many many herbs in it, although they did leave out some of the truly never-to-be-used herbs, which is good to keep people from wanting them, but maybe it would have been good to learn those properties for finding good substitutions. But seriously, this is an excellent book. Every herb is gone into in detail with properties, combinations and preparation methods. Adulterants are noted as well.

Wow! I had the previous edition, but this is so much better. I found that there was a shortage of information in the older version, but that has been addressed and then some In this.
