Gamelyn Games Tiny Epic Kingdoms Heroes Expansion Board Game: A Small Box 4X Fantasy Game of Heroes

I picked up the KS version of this game and Tiny Epic Kingdoms 2nd edition at Origins 2016. I have learned in the past to never buy the expansion if you have not played the original game. I took a chance (it was the KS Deluxe edition after all), and I'm really glad I did. I made sure to play Tiny Epic Kingdoms before adding this expansion in to the mix so I could get a feel for both.Age on the game is set to 13+, but I think that was to comply with European rules. (I may be thinking of another game), but I think younger could play this without to many issues.This is a cool game, and if you have not played any 4x games, this is a very good intro into them.If you have, or are thinking of getting Tiny Epic Kingdoms, I think this is a must have. The whole Hero addition is worth it.Pros:* Small box and footprint. I have other games that I can't get to fit on the table.* Heroes, should have been in the first game, well worth it* Towers now do more than just get you points. They help with war/defense too!* More optional tokens on the boards add new things (like traps)Cons:* The silver in the game I feel was tossed in to add something else to it, no real value to the game for me* More factions, started handing them out randomly now* Optional tokens also add portals (can quest on a move if the portal is in that territory)

If you like the base game then you will love the expansion. I picked up this expansion straight away because I wanted the rules for solo play. Solo play works by using an AI whose moves are determined by a dice roll. It works out pretty good and is enjoyable enough. The only bit I don't care for is that once an action is taken it can not be taken again until all other actions have been taken. Although, that rule is especially important in a solo game as it changes the AI's defense and options.The other additions to the game (heroes and a new land type) add fun, depth, and an extra layer of strategy. Just like the base game, the components and artwork are top notch.

Epic addition to the tiny epic kingdoms. Adding more factions and the heroes which adds a new component to the strategy. Also includes the solo card which allows you to direct the actions of the AI or “dummy player”.

Fixes everything that was missing from the base game. Highly recommend getting this straight away as it adds more depth and actually makes combat viable and worth something.

This is a great addition to the base game TEK. The solo play is fine.

Excellent expansion that includes a ton of new factions to play as, my personal favorites being the Polar Kin and Pigfolk.My only slight gripe with the game is that the rule books do not include every "what if" scenario, i.e. what happens when a player only has one meeple left? Can the Death Knights ability be used on meeples from the Lost Kingdom in 2 player? A lot of rules had to be looked up on the game's online forums, but that is a fairly minor complaint.
