Heartland Food Products Belgian Waffle and Pancake Mix, Malted Vanilla, 5 Pound

I don't leave many reviews unless a product is extremely good or extremely bad. But I have just made my first batch of Heartland Vanilla Malt Waffles and had to come and leave a review on this product. I had been using the Carbon Golden Waffle mix, which is very good. But on my last order, due to pricing, I decided to try the Heartland Vanilla Malt Waffle mix. I mixed up the first batch this morning and loved that I only needed to add water. No eggs, milk or melted butter is necessary. The mix, even before cooking it, had a wonderful, vanilla scent. I popped the first load into the Belgium waffle maker and oh, my goodness, the smell would make you melt. The waffles came out light, crispy outside, soft and moist inside... the perfect waffle. They taste exactly like the waffles you'd find in good hotels.The waffles were so light and flavorful that it would be a shame to cover them with syrup. The only things these waffles need is a light dusting of powdered sugar or fresh fruit and maybe a dollop of whipped cream. Don't cover up the light delicious taste with heavy sugary syrup!My only complaint would be in the packaging. The mix comes in a flimsy plastic bag and mine was covered with a dusting of waffle mix when I opened my shipment. There is no zip closure so be prepared to twist tie it closed or pour into a plastic storage container.This will be my waffle mix of choice that I will continue to purchase in the future.

This is not the normal mix we use for waffles. However, I wanted to try a mix that only required water be added. I did my research which included reading the many reviews that others had posted about this product. I am really glad I went with the majority.When it first arrived, I have to admit, I was not pleased with the packaging. The mix comes in a very flimsy non-resealable bag. This may be good if you plan on using all of the mix at one time. However, if you are like our family and only wish to make a small batch, be ready to find a containter to put the remaining mix in.As for the actual mix - it is really good! The instructions are very straight forward. Two parts water to three parts mix and let it sit for 15 minutes. It really doesn't get any more simple than that. Plus, the mix is very forgiving. Our 11YO made the pancakes and she didn't measure properly so the initial batter was a little runny. All we did was add a litte extra mix and the pancakes turned out quite tastey! The kids even said this mix is tastier than the malted mix we normally use.In a nutshell, I would recommend Heartland Malted Vanilla Belgian Waffle - All in One Mix for parents with kids who love to make and eat pancakes on more than special occasions. This mix is easy, forgiving and tastey. The hint of vanilla is just right. You don't need a lot of syrup with these...that's how good they are. Also, the vanilla is not so overpowering that if you wish to add other flavorings or ingredients, you can.

I ordered the Heartland Blueberry Waffle Mix, the Heartland Malted Vanilla and the Carbon's Malted Original. This is by far better than the Carbon's in my opinion. The batter tastes like cake batter. I was expecting the waffle to be sweet like cake, but it was just a really good waffle. My 15 year old and I liked the Blueberry mix the best. My 11 year old and 17 year old liked the Vanilla better. I know others have mentioned liking the Vanilla better so you are just going to have to try them both.The mix could not have been simpler. 3 parts mix to 2 parts cold water. Mix. Let sit for 15 minutes. One thing that I've seen mentioned here and it bears repeating. After it sits for 15 minutes, you are going to have to add a bit of water to the mix as it sets up too stiff. Just a tablespoon or so should get it to waffle consistency. Another thing mentioned is that your go to ladle is probably going to put too much on the waffle iron. My first waffle spilled out of the iron. (That is when I tasted the batter.) The next waffle, I was careful to put a few tablespoons less on the iron and I got a perfect waffle.3 cups of mix yielded two Belgian waffles.I am using the Waring Waffle Maker Pro. Setting 3 1/2. Cook until only the faintest wisp of steam is coming from the iron. You don't want to leave too much moisture in the waffle in case you want to freeze them. Moisture creates water crystals that damage the waffle.

I do not care for this mix AT ALL. It bakes up thick and heavy, and the "crust" on the waffle has an odd flat texture that is not good. The "vanilla" flavor has a chemical smell and taste, and I don't even know what "malted" means, in regards to this mix. A disappointment, as we just got our waffle maker and were really excited! Blech.

Easy mix with just water and 15-minutes later one terrific waffle ready for the waffle iron. Ordered both this Waffle mix and the Waring Pro WMK600 Double Belgian-Waffle Maker [...]product from Amazon.com. I was very excited to try out this waffle mix and my new waffle maker right away, so we had breakfast for dinner tonight. We thoroughly enjoyed these waffles, Wow, really easy and delicious. Light crispy outside, fluffly on the inside. I see all kinds of yummy possibilities.The regular complete waffle/pancake mixes from the grocery store does not compare with this tasty mix. Hearland Malted Vanilla Pancake & Belgian Waffle Complete Mix is in a class by itself. Just order the mix, you will have no regrets! So very good!(I plan on writing a review on the waffle maker after a few more tries, but based on tonight's waffles I am very pleased with this purchase too).
