Q: Is the beige rug as light in color as it shows up on the picture?

It is a great color, not too beige, really a nice carpet and it stays clean a long time with two dogs, My husband spilled red wine on it and i cleaned it with bleach and water, came right out.

Q: what is the difference between the Milan Shag and the California Shag?

I own several of both; they are similar thickness and plushness but the Milan is definitely softer and a little more luxurious feeling. It also has a very, very slight sheen and the California does not. The California is still very thick and plush though, and comes in a much wider selection of colors so if the Milan doesn’t come in the color you want, don’t hesitate on the California.

Q: How do you clean the rug?

Professional cleaning is best, but if using a vacuum use an attachment head without rotating bristles. Essentially you want to suck the dirt out of the rug but you should not use your vacuum’s power beater brush head on a shag rug or even a medium high pile. And if you have a true shag rug, the best way is to not use the vacuum at all but rather clean it the old fashioned way: take the rug outside and shake it. You can hang it over a railing, a sturdy clothesline or a fence or invite 3 friends over and have them each grab a corner. You can still purchase rug beaters, but a sturdy stick or broom handle will do. There are also many on-line tutorials for cleaning shag rugs. The key to remember is that you must regularly remove the dirt and powerful vacuum cleaners may pull and damage and mat the fibers.
