Big Time Disappointment
As you can see below, I had a major problem with this hose. I finally found a way to contact Gnome. They didn't hesitate to help me. I took a picture and sent it to them. They replaced my hose immediately (within 2 days). So I am reserving judgment. Their customer service I felt was extraordinary. I can't believe a product can really be bad when the customer service is so good! I am changing my one star review to a 4 star because of this.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I bought this in May. It was exactly what I wanted, lightweight, easy to store etc. I took very good care. Made sure to empty the water from each use, always put it away carefully.I used only about 3 or 4 times to water my garden because we had gotten so much rain this year. I also used it quickly every other day or so to fill my bird bath. Then it just split, for no reason of which I am aware. Water started pouring down from the middle of the hose, and no longer did waterreach the nozzle. Just like that, I was left with no hose. I had hoped it would last at least a couple of years before I needed to replace.Supposedly it is guaranteed for 12 months. I am supposed to notify Gnome. Not quite sure how to do that, but I will try to find out.

Was great....until It was not.
We purchased 2 of these hoses after the "as seen on tv brand" exploded. They were great for a year and then one of them blew a seal or something (inside the hose. the exterior looks fine). They were very well cared for and stored in our pump house. $25+ is a lot to pay for a hose that you only get a year of use out of. We did not even use them daily 1 time a week maybe. This type of hose is a great idea and so much easier to manage than a standard hose so my search continues - there has to be a brand meant to last.

Good hose for right situation
This hose is nice for the right situation. It does expand to its full length and diameter when pressurized and the "built-in on/off valve" at the end farthest from the faucet is closed. However, once that valve is opened and you try to water something, the drop in pressure inside the hose causes the hose to try to shrink and pull back towards the faucet. So trying to water something at the full 50 foot length is not easy, because you are having to fight against that resistance. We don't use water sprinklers, so not sure how that would work. But at a shorter distance, the hose works just fine for watering plants by hand. While this did not work out for our 60 foot back porch where I planned to use it, it is perfect for another part of the yard, where we only need it to reach 30-40 feet. It does not kink, and when we are finished, it shrinks and almost stores itself in the plastic tub next to the faucet, without having to fight to coil it up like we did with the more traditional hose that was there previously.

SPRING'19 UPDATE: GOT 2 SUMMERS OUT OF GNOME EXPANDABLE HOSE----DIDN'T MAKE IT TO 3RD ONE.
I've been using expandable hoses for about 8 years and have used many different ones. I've had to buy a newexpandable hose every year although only used for about 4 mos.--some early ones didn't even last one summer.I follow all the manufacturer's suggestions and instructions--protect from uv rays & disconnect from hose bib whennot in use. I've had & used this hose for about a month now. I like it... a lot. It appears to be better made and ofhigher quality exterior material than the others I've bought. I use about every 3rd day, for watering plants & hosingdown decks and stairs. Therefore, gently used except that I only have a faucet on one deck, so I drape this hoseacross it and drop it down to the stairs for the other deck. I'm very careful to hand over hand it down and back upbut when using on the non-fauceted deck and stairs there probably is some rubbing on the rounded edges of thewide rail. I'm challenged with spinal cord injuries and this is light weight enough for me to easily handle, even though it's the 50 ft length. The water pressure coming through it is adequate for my uses. I use this hose with the instantconnect attachments so it's easy to attach and detach from the hose bib every time it's used and with a high qualitymulti-function sprayer which I leave attached.UPDATE: A YEAR LATER. ... YEA!! I left it outside all winter in a planter bowl with another one turned upside downon top of it to cover.....actually, it's that way yr round.... and It's fine! Finally, an expandable hose that has survivedfrom one yr to the next.MARCH 2019... I got it out to hose off the deck this weekend and most of the water came out of the fabric just belowthe the brass fitting on the user end. Surprised me because it was fine when I put it away last fall for the winter.I'd have thought it was going to do that it would be on the bib end I bought this hose in June '17. Basically it made it through 2 yrs summer/fall seasons. It was used for watering planters, occassionally hosing down the car and decks and filling the plastic pool for the dogs. Actually, it's pretty gently used but still it lasted at least twice as long as the others I'd tried before it. Unfortunately, it didn't make it to a 3rd season. Isn't it refreshing, though, to have real "experience" review instead of "we just got it and tried it out... works great" ? I think the bottom line is the expandable hoses simply don't last more than a couple years. You'd think with all the technology available today and about 10 yrs to improve these since they were first introduced, they could do better.

Ruptured completely in 8 months. Otherwise great.
I read every review for every expandable hose, and chose this one based on those reviews. I like 1) the way it shrinks to 1/3 its length, 2) that it has nice brass fittings on both ends, which should last many years, and 3) the way it is supposedly built of many multi-directional layers, blah blah blah. But, and here's the BIG BUT, what good is all this if it ruptures just like the cheapo ones? I had this one on my lower porch in the full shade of the upper deck. It never saw the sun. I only used it weekly for a few minutes and stored it in a basket under the faucet. I was watering my new tomatoes and wham, all of a sudden my pants are soaked and water is shooting everywhere. The outer black fabric was fine, but the inner rubber tube is apparently shot.
