After going through this collection of pieces, I found that I was able to develop a sense of which pieces I needed to practice as the same old faults cropped up. A little like fixing my golf swing - old bad habits tend to creep back in. In any event, it is good to have a set of pieces with an accompanying CD, to check phrasing, timing and general hygiene factors. The downside is that none of the pieces are awfully inspiring, and I view playing them as more of a chore than anything else. Get through these, and then its back to Bach..It also does not seem necessary to have tied this book to the original "Pumping Nylon" instruction book (which I cannot recommend highly enough). While I understand that the publishers may have wanted to capitalize on the success of the brand generated by that effort, the marketing strategy has detracted from the fact that the books are in no way related, and that this is functions quite well on its own terms.I also recommend Andrew York's jazz book for classical players, from the same publisher.

The book is very attractive and very well print.The collected studies are from quite easy - The frog galliard- to very difficult like the cadenza of the Aranjuez : this means that the rate of improvement of yours technique must be very quick for reading the whole book.Nevertheless this is a very strong stimulus for overcoming yours limits.The CD is very helpfull . The suggestions before the pieces are quitepredictable . Anyhow I think that this is a useful book if you are a guitarist half way between intermediate and difficul repertoire.
