STORY: I RECENTLY ACQUIRED this fine example of 1920-30s french fabric directly from France. It's a top quality striped damask and features grey and sand tones of classical wreaths and urns. Too lovely to cut up, I paired it with an ivory linen back and adorable 1930s milky white glass buttons to form a gorgeous heirloom bolster pillow. Antique Czech glass buttons, from the 1930s, firmly secures the quality down/feather pillow insert. Prior to WWII, a vast majority of glass buttons were artistically handmade in Czechoslovakia. At the end of 1945, all German Czechoslovakians were told to leave the country with only 24 hour notice. They left almost all their manufacturing equipment behind, including button molds. Soviets confiscated equipment to make state-controlled export buttons until 1988. Antique glass buttons have recently been found hidden in old button making factories in the Czech Republic and are now being sold on market. With its lovely neutral color palette, this elegant bolster would enhance any living room settee or master suite bed.
