Fantastic Bread
I mill wheat for baking and the Montana Bronze Chief Hard Red makes an outstanding honey wheat bread. Fantastic flavor for loaf bread and pita bread. You can also sprout the wheat berries for salads because they are not irradiated. Well packed and arrives fully intact. I store the wheat in food safe 5 gallon buckets with lid to keep the grain safe from pests.

Less than five stars, only because of Amazon packaging
Beautiful wheat but I'm surprised it got to me without damage. The box it was in was very flimsy and pretty beaten up. Another handling and I think it would've failed completely and then the destination address would've been lost. Wheat Montana's big bag inside was made of heavy brown paper and sewn shut on top and bottom over a reinforcement tape. In perfect condition. Wheat Montana even marked CLEARLY on the bag which end to pull the string from to be able to "unsew" the closure, and there was even a "Best If Used By" date printed on the very nicely printed bag. So kudos to Wheat Montana for the bag. Not so much to Amazon for the box. Yesterday I opened the bag and poured the wheat into 15 one-gallon glass canning jars and vac-sealed the jars with my FoodSaver jar attachment. I use that FoodSaver almost exclusively for sealing jars. Removing the oxygen really extends the life of whatever's in the jar. Only dry stuff, though. Things like grains, dried herbs and tea leaves. The wheat was just beautiful, not much dust and no chaff, and no sign of weevils even though I figure it's been stored for 9 months. I am accustomed to buying my wheat locally from a Kansas farmer through our local Farmer's Market. But he has had some crop failures and I've had to search for another source. His wheat has to be stored for a month in the freezer to kill possible weevil eggs. It is nice not to have to do that. The box is headed for the garden, will go under some woodchips in one of the walkways. Nothing goes to waste around here. Amazon's boxes are useful for lots of things. The #143 box is perfect for storing a dozen glass quart canning jars. Sometimes I line boxes of other sizes with a plastic bag and add soil for planting things in. Amazon's boxes would be more degradable AND stronger if they used paper tape at the bottom seam and all the way around to the beginning for continuous sealing and then maybe also in two places across all the way around in the other direction for stability. This is not the first time I've received something in a damaged box. They were aware the box was heavy because they put a sticker on the BOTTOM, saying "Heavy".Wheat Montana has a great reputation and so does Bronze Chief. I am looking forward to using it.
