This author is an excellent historian of the history of the Church. His deep insights and analysis give all who read it hope for the future. We have been through tough times before and this book will help you maintain your balance and faith in God's Providence.

I would recommend any of Steve's books. This is quite fast. I am surprised that he didn't emphasize the Arian heresy over and above prosecution. The ending chapters from the Enlightenment on actually seemed like on big blur of problems, I am not sure how the Church came out stronger. The last chapter was very helpful when he contrasted the right and wrong ways to respond to Church problems. Overall good book

This book is by no means a thorough analysis of the past and current challenges facing Catholicism. And, it certainly is written with the viewpoint of pious Catholic in mind, so if you do not already believe the claims of Catholicism, this book will not change your views. However, this book is a good intro to each of these issues and can serve as a starting point to further research.
