Because my old Netgear router got me so much trouble after serving me for several years, I decided to buy a new one. I found this Amplify Alien interesting and so bought one. It was easy to setup, allowing me to give the network a name and a password I like rather than the given ones. In additional to plugging the power and ethernet cables, everything was done with the AMPLIFI app. I guess I did it in less than 5 minutes. Every device except one worked immediately. The one that did not work was my HP JetDrive 2900nw print server. My printer HP Color LaserJet M553d did recognize the WiFi router but failed to assign an IP to JetDrive. Therefore, wireless printing is DEAD. Whether this is because the equipment is too old or something else. HP is perhaps the worst large companies that is incapable of providing a readable and easily understandable manual. Anyway, a new printer with wireless printing is on the way rather than using the odd JetDrive 2900nw. One little incident should be reported here. The router powered off during night time for no obvious reason as no one is using it. I don't know why. However, unlike my other routers such as LinkSys, ORBI and the old Netgear, this Amplify Alien does generate heat. This is my third day using this router. Except for the powering off in the first night, everything is working fine. I hope its quality is as good as my other routers. In summary, if the quality is good, then this is really good WiFi router.

I purchased an Alien Router & Mesh combo about three years ago. I was able to place the Mesh unit on the second floor, in the opposite corner of the house, and connect it as a wired back haul because in the early ‘90s I ran Cat5 from my basement utility room to every corner of my house. This worked perfectly until I needed to connect my video security system, backup generator, weather station etc. All outside of the house. One of the limitations of the Alien is that the Router and Mesh unit are bound to each other and you cannot add a second Mesh unit - it can only be expanded by adding additional Alien Routers. So the opportunity to buy this Router was a godsend as the price was $100 lass than buying directly from Ubiquiti. All of my units are hardwired and I have complete coverage over my 1.5 acre homestead - inside and out. Couldn’t be happier! BTW - The Alien is truly Plug-N-Play. I’ve never seen anything easier. In fact, I even called Ubiquiti to make sure there wasn’t something else I needed to do to complete the setup! All you need is your SSID and Password - Alien does the rest.

Signal in house was almost non existent in certain rooms due to the construction, age and lay-out. This has made a massive difference
