Nice little tool. I use this to throw the same-size cylinders in my repetition practice.

I cannot use it without this part. I would love to have the replacement bracket with threaded nut. If I had that, I know I would revise this review to be 5 stars.

It takes a bit of adjustment to get it set. The vertical rod needs to be taller. I’d say twice as tall and a wider heavier base.

Any gauge is useful for consistent pottery. This one is Ok, but has flaws. The friction nuts are easily loosened by moving or jostling, so I have to keep measuring and adjusting. If you just need one point of measurement, like overall height of a pot, use a chopstick stuck in a lump of clay on your splash pan or just stop the wheel periodically and use a ruler to measure. If you need to track shoulder and lip height, this is a helpful tool. Just be aware it will need readjusting anytime you jostle or move it.

Get a perfect straight line. Easy to adjust and durable. Use for hand building pottery.

I use this tool for making my pots the same size and shape as most people. I found the sharp tip was cutting into my pots. I added an old plastic credit card to the tip. This was helpful for extending the end of the arm out a bit and making the tip flexible. see photos.

I bought this gauge so I could mark a cutting line on my pottery. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold, even when tightened. I put the tip on the clay while the piece is on a banding wheel and the clay immediately moves the tip and I don't get a straight cutting line. I can't think of what else I could use it for so I'm returning it.

Great for production pottery, if you’re making lots of the same thing. Very useful tool. Doesn’t move around while using. I definitely recommend this tool for any serious potter.
