Do You Need 501 Quilt Blocks - Yes!
This is a great reference book for the quilter, especially if you like to design your own quilts. I wouldn't be without it. You may have made a number of the blocks in the book, but the directions give you all the cutting measurements for all different sizes of each block, from 4" squares all the way up to 12", 13" or 14" squares, and I find this so helpful when I am trying to fashion my own quilt design. Sure beats having to do all that math myself! My only problem with the instructions is that they are basic cutting and piecing instructions and do not incorporate the "short cut" techniques that have been developed over the years for making half-square triangles, flying geese, and the like. I am an experienced quilter, so I can substitute those short cuts when I recognize they can be used - and they certainly making piecing easier - but someone newer to quilting would not be able to do this.Judy's book deals with the blocks only. Unlike Marsha McCloskey's "Block Party"(which gives instructions for 120 different blocks but only the 9" square size),she does not go on to give suggestions and instructions on how to put a block together to form several different designs or how to put different blocks together to form designs. I have both books and use them interchangeably. This really works great for me. If you can have yards and yards of fabric in your stash, you certainly can have two "block" books, and I recommend it.

Love all these blocks!
This is a great book for having access to the 501 blocks it provides. If you're looking for instructions, it's not heavy on those; presumes knowledge in creating that you may need to look elsewhere for. (YouTube is good for this.) Wonderful variety though and info on a variety of sizes for each block.

Huge book for quilters
Once I read the intro and instructions, the patterns were easy to follow. Great selection of blocks. My only suggestion is that this book would be a bit more enjoyable if it had a catalog with more designs visible on one page as does the print edition. Even so, it is simple to navigate. Thumbs up for Judy Hopkins magnificent collection. I’ve learned so much.

quilting book
This book is no longer being published. I wanted it so badly that I was will to pay more than twice the original price. It looks like a new book. It has quilt block patterns in 3 different sizes and instructions for cutting them. Every quilter needs one. They should publish it again.

Superb - Must Have
This is a superb book for quilting block reference. All the blocks are listed with rotary cutting directions, easy to follow directions. The author did an outstanding job of replicating the most traditional blocks for use with a rotary cutter. Personally I hate using templates. For me, rotary cutting is so much easier and faster. I would highly recommend this book especially for beginning quilters, but also for any level of quilter that prefers to use a rotary cutter. This is a book of blocks only. There are templates to refer to when the patterns tell you what parts need to be cut, but they are easily measured to use the rotary cutter for cutting the fabric. I believe this to be a most valuable reference tool for quilt block construction. I am very pleased to have found it.

Excellent Quilt Block Book
This book is a must for anyone who loves to rotary cut their quilting blocks as all the hard work has been done for you and you can simple get down to cutting and making your blocks. With 501 different blocks finding the block you want is easy. Each and every block has 6 different sizes which means that there are over 3000 cutting instructions in the one book. I would have to say the book has the most 'popular' or possibly easiest blocks to rotary cut in them which is understandable. Although it has 501 blocks in the book which is still a fantastic number, there are obviously a lot of blocks that are not in the book - this is where I think the 5,500 Quilt Block Designs book and this one are two of the best quilt block resource books to have on hand together. Would asking for a book with 1000 Rotary Cutting blocks be too much to ask for? I hope not as I am looking forward to the next edition.

Lots of choices in blocks and easy to follow.
Great book. I used to make eight 12" blocks into placemats. Blocks were fun to make.

Best quilt book - EVER!
In my sewing room I have a whole shelf of quilting books, old and new - most of which are pretty to look at but in reality I'm just not inspired enough to do many of the projects. This book is a breath of fresh air, it's not about colour, fabric or basic quilting technique, it does what it says on the tin - 501 different blocks. I was in between projects, but starting to mentally plan two single quilts for my parents spare room. I couldn't decide where to start, wanted to do some sewing, so decided just to make a couple of practice blocks from this book. Wow! There is so much inspiration, so many designs to chose from. The instructions are fabulous because with each block there is a chart giving you the sizings for anything from a finished 4" to 14" block. I'm now making block after block and will eventually make the quilts from these. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, I think in years to come I will have used this more then any other on my shelves.

Fabulous resource book.
This is a very good reference book to make an array of different quilt blocks. There are blocks to suit both beginners and advanced quilters. The first few pages explain clearly how to use the block diagrams. I am new to quilting and have found this book easy to useand love the fact that the first few pages have colour illustrations of the individual blocks to give you inspiration. Each one tells you which page the information is on for that block. The information is then diagram based and tells in which order to prepare the block. A fabulous array of patterns (501 as stated on the cover). Definitely worth buying as you'll never be stuck for ideas.

Block multi size pattern. Not a how to.
Love this book, it doesn’t show you how. It is a go to pattern book for the blocks with multiple sizes. This is my go to book and never far from my design table. Love it

Great book for a confident quilter.
Looks interesting, full of different wonderful blocks each one given in a variety of sizes. Definitely not for the beginner. I class myself as an intermediate beginner.

Cutting edge
I like this book. It gives you lots of designs and their different sizes. I would say some knowledge of patchwork is necessary. It is not a book from which to learn how to do patchwork.
