Good quality plastic components, better than the photos show
This product greatly exceeded my expectations. Plastic components are surprisingly good quality and overall feel of set is better than any other travel game that i have owned. was going to use this as a set for teaching so I wouldn't have to care if it was lost or damaged, but now I have a problem because I want to keep it for myself !! would buy again. thank you

The board is bigger than the cheaper set
The product is as seen in the photographs. The style of calligraphy is from my Western perspective a bit messy, but it is still easy to tell which piece. Some of the pieces had a pink smudge on them, perhaps from the process that printed the promoted values on the reverse side of the piece. If held at a very steep angle (almost vertical) some of the pieces slid out of place (a Rook, a Bishop, a knight and a pawn). As may be noticed from the photographs, there are pieces of plastic sticking out from the rear of the piece; this is from where you have to remove them from a sprue. Anyway, this product is perfectly adequate for the purposes it may reasonably be used for; in my case it;s small enough to sit in front of the keyboard whilst playing Shogi on the computer. From my perspective I would have paid more for a higher quality product but I do feel that I have received value for money.

Very fun shogi set that is suitable for travelling.
Before this, I've only seen, but never played shogi, so I've always been curious. Personally, I'm a fan of many of these board games, including chess, Chinese chess, checkers, Chinese checkers, etc because I like thinking strategically and using my brain to come up with new ideas. This was definitely something new to me and I had to learn it, which was pretty straightforward as the set came with instructions. A little confusing at the start, but as you play, you learn more and more and before you know it, you know the rules. The pieces come attached to a frame, so you need to cut them out, which was quite easy. If you don't want an uneven sharp edge, you'll need to give the area connecting to the frame a little shave down and it's very simple. Most of the pieces were fine, there was just one piece when you can see a gap and it looks like the piece wasn't done perfectly. It would be nice if two bags were provided to keep the pieces separate, because right now, they all get put together inside the folded board that forms a box, which will mix them all, and take a lot longer to separate when you come to play it. The magnetic aspect is quite weak, unfortunately, which is probably the biggest downfall of this. The magnetic aspect helps, but it doesn't stop pieces from moving, so I do think stronger magnets are necessary for this to be better. All things consider, at £11.79, I think this is a very good purchase and between family and friends that enjoy the varieties of chess, this would definitely be a great addition to play with.

Magnet is okay, instructions could be better
Had high hopes for this as a way to learn Shogi. The pieces themselves aren’t very magnetic and don’t always hold to the board well. Also, the kanji on the pieces is slightly different to what’s in the instructions. The instructions themselves could be vastly improved too. For a beginner it was difficult to understand which pieces went where and then what all the pieces actually did!

Absorbing travel game
This wasn't a game I knew, so it is fortunate that the set comes with a clrea set of playing instructions. The magnetic pieces live inside the folded board when not in use and overall it's a neat package (if a little larger than perhaps it needs to be) to take travelling.

Well made travelling set
The quality is okay for the price but not as robust as shown on the advert I would say. Lightweight so easy to take it on a trip. The board is smooth but the pieces you need to take out from a sheet so there could be some rough edges. The magnet is a bit weak but you do not need to swing it around. Overall good value and happy to recommend.
