My son loves it
My son loves Thomas and friends, he really enjoys this book. I would say only problem is it’s quite expensive to buy them one by one. I don’t see any books set available other than one big set that’s got 65 books.. which is too many..

The 'modern' version of Thomas - for little ones, seems to be missed on the negative reviews!
This story is based on the 'modern' version of Thomas which may not be to everyone's liking, however some of the other reviews seems overly negative as they probably remember the 'good old days' of Thomas - I am indifferent, I saw and read Thomas as a kid, and I get that things change, as do the characters and the political correctness, however for my kids they see no differences unless we show them the older versions, in which case they will observe those differences - a learning point. This story involves Thomas coming to the UK from Sodor (okay there's no explanation as to how) but you get the point, he makes a trip from North to South and sees some sights and landmarks along the way (aside from the practicalities of the rail system) - he learns to listen (another learning point) and his passengers get to Brighton for their holiday. He then has his wheels changed (yes he was tired, not because that's not what would happen to a real train, other reviewers seem to miss this!) In general it is a 'nice' book for kids as it open up the Thomas world to a more relatable experience which is in a real place, most likely the one we live in (we have another title where he goes to London and sees the sights) and they may even want to see those sights by train - no bad thing. As a whole I think the authors have done pretty well in the scope, the story itself may be a bit brief and the underlying message (to listen) may be a bit heavy but as a Thomas type story goes, it's accessible and enjoyable for little ones. The illustrations are in the new style and the characters are too, the book is a larger format so easier for little ones to hold. It could probably be padded out a bit or have multiple stories but as a single book it will be read again and again.

A Perfect Story
My granddaughter loves this and insists on having it read to her every evening. It’s perfect for both girls and boys.

Beautiful pictures
Good quality paperback book, with beautiful pictures, telling the story of the journey from Edinburgh to Brighton. My 4 year old nephew loves Thomas books and he loves this book. He’s got a keen interest in everything around him so he he was interested in the landmarks and which ones he will see himself. Interestingly, he asked if it was night in Blackpool because it takes so long to get there! It’s more likely associated with Blackpool being famous for lights but it’s amazing what children that age understand. He’s been on holidays that took a long time to get there though. It’s well set out, meant for reading together so you can discuss the pictures and story. It’s currently the bedtime story of choice, not to mention several times a day.I’m surprised this has such poor reviews as it’s a lovely book. I always hated reading Thomas books to my son, as I found the style dated (he’s 27 this year!), but my son really enjoyed them (as have all my nephews and several nieces). I just gritted my teeth and read them to him. I know some children don’t enjoy Thomas, but you wouldn’t be buying the book then! Provided lots of pictures so you can judge it by the book itself. It’s currently priced under £6 which is reasonable.

Why?
If I could only use one word to describe this book it would be "Why?".The Rev Awdry must be turning in his grave.A wasted opportunity - great premise, Thomas is travelling from Edinburgh to Brighton - but no epic adventure to be found here! One for die-hard Thomas and Isle of Sodor fans only... Thomas will be chugging his way to my nearest charity shop.
