Nice looking hinge; easy to install
These worked well. Our tall, heavy door required both spring hinges to close and it now closes gently (and slowly enough that the dogs are not injured if they try to sneak in behind us).The only hitch we had was that we stripped the allen screw at the top. We installed this on a door that barely opens to 90 degrees. This means that we had less than 90 degrees of play to turn the spring tightening screw on top. There was simply not enough angle to turn the screw with the allen wrench provided with the hinge. So I tried turning it with an allen wrench tip on my multi-tipped screwdriver. This almost worked, but the tip that I had was not a perfect fit for the screw and I ended up stripping the screw. I did manage to tighten the spring, but I'll never be able to retighten it.If you have a similarly situated door, I recommend using a larger allen wrench with the exact right size, but with the added leverage you will be able to apply torque to wind the spring without stripping the tightening screw. I did this on the second spring hinge and it worked fine (and I was able to tighten it a bit more than the other hinge). As for that, it is good to have a helper when tightening this hinge. One person can tighten the screw on top while the other slips the pin into the hole at the bottom to lock the spring in place. For our near 90 degree door opening, we wound the spring 5 notches (or holes). For greater than 90 degrees, they recommend not to tighten it more than 4 notches. And for doors opening 180 degrees, they recommend only tightening it 3 notches. This is because you wind the spring further as you open the door and this extra tension in the spring is what closes the door. But the spring apparently has a limit to how tightly it can be wound without breaking. I would have liked to have gotten to the fifth notch on the first hinge I installed, but as I said, I stripped the screw. We have oil-rubbed bronze finish (or aged bronze finish, it goes by different names) for all our door hardware. Although both products are made by Hager, the finish on the spring hinges is darker than the finish on the ball-bearing (non-spring) hinges. The spring hinges actually match our Schlage door levers quite well, but the finish on the ball-bearing hinges does not match that used on the spring hinges. Finally, when buying replacement hinges, it is important to realize that every manufacturer decides where to place the screw holes. There is no real standard. You can buy a 4" x 4" hinge with 5/8" radius rounded corners, only to find that the screw holes do not line up with the holes left behind from the previous hinge. The Hager 4" x 4" hinge conforms to template T399. Just do a web search for "T399.pdf hinge" and you will find a file explaining the exact dimensions of the hinge and location of the screw holes (relative to the sides of the hinge). These hinges conform to T399 template.Oh, and don't make the mistake I did. I started by removing the old door to take the old hinges off. Then I found that my replacement hinges would not work. So I had to put the door back on. This is very difficult with a big heavy door. When I got the proper hinges, it dawned on me that I only had to replace one hinge at a time. No need to remove the door. Obvious in retrospect.

Worked great!
Bought these to use with a baby gate I was making to guard the stairway. I was a bit hesitant on the spring-close operation because it is at the top of the stairs, and I have a 2 yr old Daughter that made me wonder about how hard it would "sping-close". I didn't want it to be strong enough to "push her" down the stairs if she's not ready for it.... BUT, I'm happy to say there's no issue with that! These are adjustable, and you can set it to swing however fast or slow you'd like it to. Mine is set to the 2nd weakest setting, which gives a nice slow swing that you could stopped with a pinky finger if you wanted to. I'll try to remember to update this review with a video, but here's a picture of the gate. To open it, you would pull back on the right hand side, and it will swing back closed by itself. Works it!

CLOSE THE DOOR!!
OK, first off this is not a rant. I installed 3 of these because of the grandkids running in and out, the dogs running in and out and sometimes just needing something that pulls the door to behind you. I don't have any of them set up to fully close the door to its latched position. I just have them set so the doors not standing wide open. This is actually very handy in numerous situations. Additionally I didn't want them to harm the kids or the dogs by slamming on them. These closers work perfectly for the job I had intended.

Perfect self-closing hinge to replace a standard as the hole patterns are the same! Great product.
Bought to replace standard hinges on a door that always wants to swing open and get in my way, this was ideal. The hole pattern perfectly matches standard 4" hinges. Every other self-closing hinge on the market uses a different hole pattern and I had no intention of drilling holes.Installation was as simple as unscrew one hinge, install this one, and set the tension with the included allen wrench, and I used needle nose pliers to hold the little pin to protect my fingers. Took all of twenty seconds to adjust. And readjusting a few days later took ten seconds.Great product, I'm 100% satisfied. Exactly what I hoped when ordering.

Well Built!
I had an open out door installed on my new home. Saved a lot of space opening toward the back porch. Problem was the door wanted to swing too far out, striking the exterior wall. It was a concern for mefor 6 or so months. I was searching for ideas to stop the wind from catching the door and fighting my children while closing it....we were always saying "CLOSE THE DOOR!" Anyways, found these, purched on Amazon, Quick shipping, semi-skilled instsllation required, but an answer to prayer....problem 100% solved.I am a carpenter by trade, know the value of a good product and this is a good one!Tip: You may need a small wood chisle on some doors ways in order to compensate for the larger pin on the new hinges to properly fit -This is just the nature of upgading to this type of hinge. Once installed you can play with the torque adjustments until you get the result you need. It will catch the door at a certain degree and then assist in closing the door. You could probable get by with 1 or two hinges per door, but I went with all three for longevity sake.(I have order 10 more for various projects. A great alternative to a bulky traditional door closure on commercial or residential applications.)

Strong closing power and easy install even for a heavy solid core door
Great product. We have a fairly heavy laundry room / garage doors that the kids continually were leaving open. I didn't know if this spring hinge would be able to close it, but I put one on the bottom and one in the middle and worked like a champ. It is a little bit thicker than the normal hinge, so I had to take the top hinge off to get installed, but not a big deal. Also make sure you keep the adjustment hole for both hinges on the same side.... we weren't paying much attention and put one up and one down. For our closing situation we had to have both up. Great adjustment and easy to change the "power" of the spring. I am thinking of getting for our front door next..... HIghly recommend this product.
