Completely Appropriate but Untraditional
This book takes images from the classic Moby Dick, and presents them to the young child in the form of a photograph of a hand-felted object. It tells the story in 12 words.I read this with my nine-month-old before giving it to a one-year-old for a birthday gift. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Where the illustrations and little abstract? Absolutely. But so are the illustrations in many children's books and this series exposes the child to a different visual texture than any other book I've seen. And illustrating a verb can be very difficult. We used the whale from our Boon bath set and put it next to the whale in this book and she made the connection that they were the same. Both are abstract. We own many titles in the BabyLit collection, including Moby Dick: an ocean primer. These are also a collection of classics for written for babies, but are more focused on comparisons, counting, or colors. I would feel comfortable having books from both collections in our baby Library. In fact, we have Pride and Prejudice on its way to us now from the Cozy Classics collection. They are different because the Cozy Classics collection teaches words when the other collection teaches concepts. I think both are important in baby development. That said, we will continue to buy more BabyLit than Cozy Classics.Feel comfortable purchasing this for the baby in your life. It is not too gruesome as it is fairly abstract.

This adaptation of Moby Dick is great. Obviously the plot is sparse here
I'm a literature nerd, and I'm determined to indoctrinate my nephews in the classics. Obviously, I had to check this out. This adaptation of Moby Dick is great. Obviously the plot is sparse here, and it doesn't quite have Melville's prosaic qualities β but who cares? The illustrations are beautiful, and the few words present throughout the book convey a lot. Even if my nephew can't write his dissertation using this edition of Moby Dick, he enjoys it quite a lot. If nothing else, it has fun pictures of whales, and what kid doesn't like whales? Plus it's a lot more fun for me to read to him than another book about some anthropomorphized animal toddler taking a bath or something. I'm excited to have found this, and I intend to get many of the other books in the series.Full disclosure: my sister-in-law, the mother of my nephews, is a little perturbed by this. She thinks it's weird. But who cares? The kid loves it.

Huge hit for our 2 year old (now 3)
We bought this for our 2 year old and it was an immediate hit. We had to have a Moby Dick themed birthday party (white whale cake) and several months into his third year he's still obsessed with the story. There's another children's book about Moby Dick and a "graphic novel" pop-up book, both of which compliment this book (and both are available on Amazon). The Cozy Classic is the best intro, however. Your child will memorize the words and that's good reading practice. If your child runs with the story like ours did, stage III can involve the Gregory Peck movie, a trip to New Bedford's whaling museum and of course a whale watch.

Good Book, Gorgeous Pictures.
Only one word on each page, yet it manages to do a good job telling the general plot of Moby Dick. The pictures are super cute! I got it for my almost 1 year old, but as it is such a quick read with gorgeous pictures I wish I would have had it when my little one was younger and had a shorter attention span, now he is ready for longer stories.

Call me surprised!
I have to say, I bought this for my LO (now 1) b/c I was fascinated by the idea of Classics for a baby and I am SHOCKED by how much he loves this. I leave a pile of books out for him at any given time and for some reason, he will pick this book out of the pile and hand it to myself or my husband so we can "read" it to him. He loves the pictures & I like that we can add some narration around the pictures on the pages.

Amazing! The illustrations are incredible
My brother and I are in or 50s. Neither one of us ever made it through Moby Dick, even as an audiobook. Now we have! I bought this book for his birthday. Within an hour our entire family had read Moby Dick! Amazing! The illustrations are incredible. I love fiberarts and love the detail on the felted characters. Well worth buying for any age!

Highly recommend
I love these books! The illustrations are unique and adorable and condensing book classics into 15-20 words is ingenious! The kids love them too! Highly recommend!

Adorable, Responsible
After I saw this product advertised in the Huffington Post, I knew it was the best gift to give my new nephew. The illustrations are really snapshots of crochet figures, and the text that accompanies each picture consists of a single word: "whale," "sailor," etc. Too charming!

Poor quality
Received book today, very quick delivery. The book is lovely and is for a book lover friend who is expecting her first child however the book quality is not very good. I wouldn't say this book is new. Not happy with the price paid for the quality received.

Wooly
The concept of a "literary classic" reduced to single world and single image pages in a board book were attractive. That is: until I started to read to my 13month-old grandson. While trying to sell the story to my grandson I was astonished by his lack of attention and aggressive closing of the book. Having seen them on-line I had thought they would work with him? However, the fuzzy-felt images do not seem to cut it. The epitome of this is Ahab's leg: undoubtably whalebone, white, hard, harsh and gleaming. An object of fascination. A fuzzy-felt look-alike does not cut it with my 18-month old grandson.Good idea let down by the pictures. I can see that the "ethics" of publicising demand the fuzzy-felt figures but my personal opinion is that they detract and that simple coloured line drawings would have done the job better.

BEWARE... THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL TEXT
The original text is hundreds of pages long, and somewhat overrated in my view. I thought a nicely illustrated version would be easier for younger readers to finish, but was horrified to find it has been mercilessly abridged. Not suitable as a reference copy for exams.
