A must have book for any South African Safari
Our family is going on a photo safari in Kruger National Park. This book is a fun read in preparation for our trip. The book explains and describes the animal's physical characteristics, habitat, habits, diet and if it is endangered, threatened or being watched. All of this in a simple easy to read and interesting format. Each description is short and to the point with great photos. The introduction is also informative and interesting. I will take this book with me to check off all the animals we see. You can quickly find an animal in the book simple by flipping the pages and spotting the photograph. There aren't many current books to choose from about animals you will find on a safari. This book is a must have. I hope we see all the animal mentioned in the book!Went to South Africa with this book. We, in fact, saw nearly all the animals featured! Our family had so much fun checking off all the animals we saw. I will now keep this book forever because of all the notes we wrote in it and the memories it will bring back.

Useful and informative guide to the mammals, reptiles and amphibians of the Kruger
We bought this book for an expedition to the Kruger and it was very useful. Of course nobody needs a guide book to help them identify an elephant but there are many smaller mammals (e.g. civet, genet, mongoose, hare) and numerous species of antelope which are difficult to name unless you are an expert. There are also sections on reptiles and amphibians. The book contains lots of useful information about the park and the footprints of each animal. This is followed by a detailed description of each species with colour photographs. There is a tick box for each animal so you can record how many you spotted.Although this book was an asset, we found that the Field Guide to the Birds of the Kruger National Park was even better. This was mainly because we were far less knowledgeable about the birds (which are extremely abundant) so the bird guide helped us more. The bird guide also contained some nice features such as distribution maps within the park, and comprehensive information about rarer species that are less commonly seen.
