Basically inedible
These are SPICY. Lemme start with that. I can usually handle a good bit of spice since I frequently eat Asian dishes and snacks but my god these are awful. My local Asian store was out of Latiao as was I and I LOVE it so I figured I’d try some off here. The bags are smaller than I’m used to so I was sad off the bat, but immediately upon opening, I’m met with this gross smell that was very off putting. These don’t smell or taste like any of the six brands I’ve had or am used to. Spice aside, the flavor would make me not eat it either. But I couldn’t even finish a single stick because of the spice!! I’m so sad :( these are going straight to the trash. These are, however, actual Latiao. The texture itself is what it’s supposed to be, the sticks are thicker than normal but it’s still chewy and explodes with the greasy flavor as it’s meant to. Just be wary of this brand! I’d rate it nothing if possible since I’ve basically just wasted money.

Yummy! But an Acquired Taste
I wanted to try these after seeing them on TikTok. First thing is, they had a very strong and pungent smell. I honestly think it isn’t bad once you eat them, but it’s very off putting to a lot of people so if you’re picky this might not be for you. Otherwise, they’re a sweet and spicy snack, which are a bit oily and chewy. Definitely not the healthiest but kind of addicting.I really like them, but I understand all the negative reviews because it’s an acquired taste and if you aren’t open minded it can be hard to try them.

Disgusting smell, greasy, tough texture, bland taste
I was drawn in by the TikTok's of people eating these things. They just looked so good. But the reality is very different...I was hit by their foul odor the moment I opened the Amazon package. Like some sort of strong BO smell. I had to store them outside until I got up the nerve to try them, because the smell was so pungent it was making my whole house stink. As for the eating experience... They were basically drenched in oil. The outside of the bag was all greasy before I even opened it. The texture was very tough. And they had basically no taste, which was a surprise based on the smell.I would describe the experience of eating these like chewing on a greasy tire while a sweaty, fat man who hasn't bathed in weeks airs out his pits right in front of your face.

Good but SPICY!
So I bought these because of some popular Chinese videos going around online of a little girl buying these in a candy shop lol. I had to find out what these tasted like, and I'm not disappointed.First off, they are SPICY. They're full of chili oil and dusted with chili flakes and chili powder. It somehow makes you want more though and leaves your mouth watering. So if you can handle the spice, you'll enjoy these. The texture reminds me of tofu skin with how it's soft and chewy. The texture is pretty addicting, I just wish I could tolerate the spice. There really is no "smell" other than the spice.

Over Hyped
This snack is definitely an acquired taste.Right out of the package, the aroma is overwhelming—a strong mix of burnt soybean oil and fish oil that lingers in the nose long after the first bite. The fish oil flavor is just as prominent, carrying through the entire experience. The spiciness is unexpectedly mild, and it leans heavily on sweetness, giving it a strange similarity to spicy sweet pickles. I was expecting a bolder, more savory heat-this leaned too sweet and too pungent for my taste.

High sodium
Saw the videos and wanted to try these. The smell is strong and a little off putting, Like cat food and chili oil. I enjoyed the taste flavor and texture. If you have an open mind and like to try new foods this is for you! If you have a narrow palette don’t get them. I agree that they seem addictive but I’ll not over indulge as the sodium level is way more than should be eaten. I’d say enjoy in moderation. I probably won’t get them again because of the sodium but they’re worth a try if you like unusual foods.

Unexpectedly sweet
I learned about spicy sticks on TikTok. I was so sure it was going to be delicious. I’m positive this would have been an acquired taste, but it wasn’t at all what I was expecting so I couldn’t finish it. I’ll start off with the positive. The texture was absolutely immaculate. That texture is something I’ll be craving in the future. It was light but chewy. Super scrumptious. The spice was perfect. Your first bite, you’ll feel the spice and aroma go up your throat and through your nose. It was a nice experience. Now for what I didn’t like about it. The flavor. I’d like to say, again, this for sure could be an acquired taste. However, I was expecting something savory. It was unexpectedly sweet so I wasn’t able to finish it. It’s not sweet like cake or anything. I can’t exactly describe it. I saw a review saying it was slightly sweet, but to me, it was more than just slightly sweet.Overall I’ll give it three stars bc even though it wasn’t what I was expecting, it was still a pleasant experience to get to try this snack and maybe I’ll give it another try in the future.

Not spicy at all, smells bad, and also has with a bland taste.
This is sad that this is my first La Tiao.First of all, these are not spicy at all. Don't believe anyone who says that they are, I would say that the spice level is extremely mild. (Almost little to no spice)Second, they smell terrible. It smells like you grabbed something from the garbage can that had a tingy oil smell. You could even say it smells like oily feet, and I am not lying about this. (It literally makes me have a head ache, it's bad)Lastly, the taste is ok. It has a tint of oily taste plus an extremely bland sweet with a spicy taste (To the point you can barely taste it and can only taste the oil). Nothing special.
