Dona Got a Ramblin' Mind

This is a wonderful CD i saw them at the live Preformance they did for NPR. This CD is not to be missed!. the music surpasses generations and just is fun and lively to listen to and it is a must to see them in person if at all possible they have such energy and presence on stage and that comes through on the CD as well. After i saw them preform i bought 3 coppies on this CD one for my parents, one for my boyfried and one for me :) i played it for my parents and asked if they liked it and said how could you not like it! i can't say enough good things about the CD or the group, so just buy the CD already.

I think this is the debut CD for The Carolina Chocolate Drops, and it's a good start. The music seems a little raw, but they're having fun with it. And the men's voices sound somewhat untried - but the tunes rollick along. And I only wish I could sound as good as Rhiannon does!There's a lot of talent in this group, and they're reintroducing a wealth of traditional folk tunes to an audience that have likely never heard them before.And, check out their latest CD, "Genuine Negro Jig"  Genuine Negro Jig .

I love this band. If you like bluegrass/mountain music/old blues sounds, you should love this cd. It is great to see young people playing this kind of music. Keeping it alive. Fiddle, banjo, kazoo, jug...... it is a style of music that is unfortunately not considered "cool" by most when this gal and guys got more talent than any hip hop or pop artist ever dreamed of having. It is good time music. Up beat, creative and entertaining. I intend to purchase ALL of their cds. If you love GREAT music..... you gotta hear this band. I give them full props. VERY talented, GREAT music.

Having seen this talented group, I was eagerly awaiting this CD to arrive in the mail. Unfortunately, the recording quality is, to my ear, poor. It has a flat somewhat muffled sound, making it sound like it came from a do-it-yourself garage studio. Maybe that was done on purpose? The vibrancy of their stage performance and vocals is just not captured in this recording. I guess my complaint really is about the recording and sound quality issues. Otherwise, I am hoping this amazing group, that is keeping to the true old-timey music tradtions, will continue to prosper and perform. I gave it three stars due to sound quality.

This is my second Carolina Chocolate Drops CD. If you truly enjoy music with a hard driving African rhythm, and a Scot-Irish fiddle screaming, then throw in a back mountain banjo, jug, guitar, harmonica and drum, plus quick-worded lyrics, this is your go-to CD. All of the songs and music are great listening, and you will hear different renditions of "Tom Dooley" and "Another Man Done Gone." This group has been around several years and have appeared on TV, most recently on the Marty Stuart Show. I plan on purchasing more of their CDs, I love 'em!

I was introduced to the Carolina Chocolate Drops by NPR. They were interviewed and played live on air. I went right away to Amazon to order this cd. I appreciate the great service and received my cds ( I purchased one for myself and one to share with my brother) in a week.There is no better music to sit around a bonfire to enjoy. That is if you can fight the urge to dance! I am going to see them perform tonight for the first time and I can hardly wait!

This is the Carolina Chocolate Drops first album. Very authentic early country blues and vaudeville tunes featuring a lot of country fiddle. Not a lot of variety like in their later recordings but an excellent album . They have moved on to separate careers now. This is a treasure.

This in no way is the quality of Carolina Chocolate Drops earlier recordings. HUGE disappointment! Giddens usual clear and positive voice is very much lacking in this recording and tired-sounding when she does sing. Most of the vocal work, particularly with the male voices, sounds sloppy and off-key. The overpowering banjo strumming is nerve jangling. The first four songs sound like one continuous, monotonous strum. Then back to irritating strumming on Black Annie,and on to underlying strumming--unimaginative--on Georgie Buck, which is relieved by occasional and intermittent fiddle and vocal. Then on to more strumming, again in same key with same rhythm and same tonal range (lack thereof). Repetitive strumming continues on Band 13. The final band, a poor execution of Sourwood Mountain, has non-remarkable harmonica along with the infernal strumming. I regret having ordered this disk. The C. Chocolate Drops should withdraw this disk. I hope they return to their far superior earlier work.

Just love this group, a lot of varied but great music, with soul, could listen all night....and day...and afternoon & morning as well

Si vous aimez la musique old time, le banjo des apalaches, le violon rythmique et les chansons de hobo, si vous aimez les skiffle groups, les jug bands,le blues root, la musique à danser werstern, écoutez ce trio péchu, super en place, excellents interprètes et chanteur(ses). C'est parfois un peu répétitif comme toute musique trad, mais ça vous met des fourmis dans les pieds et du miel dans les oreilles. Une belle découverte. C'est leur premier disque commercialisé en France, et il y en a quatre autres au moins ensuite. Alain M.
