Guitars from George & Leo: How Leo Fender and I Built G&L Guitars

Interesting but...
This book begins with an interesting look into Fender's beginnings. But George paints with broad strokes and little detail. You get a few tidbits but also few details of how things developed at Fender and then at CLF.As the book progresses it morphs into what could be described as G&L marketing literature. You get a bit of what George and Leo were doing but little in regards to why. Enjoyable read, but George really missed the opportunity to tell us the Fender, Music Man, CLF and G&L story.

Great look into a super innovative American legacy
I cannot attempt to describe the magnitude in which Leo Fender has affected the world of music, and innovation in the USA. This is a great read, and cool look into the legacy that most of us will never even scratch the surface of. George Fullerton & Leo Fender worked their asses off to build fantastic instruments. I LOVE my G&L L2000, as well as my Fender Jazz! If you wanna learn a bit more about the electric guitar history, Fender, the scene in California before technocratic homogenization, and music - Give it a read. I enjoyed every page.

Good reading for G&L and Fender fans
Well written book detailing the early days of Fender and the factors leading to the inception and later sale of G & L. Since the book was written by George Fullerton, it MAY be a little self-serving re: George's role in these events, but because George was a close associate of Leo's it provides interesting insights into critical events in the history of both companies.Good photos and a lot of useful information for both Fender and G & L fans. For a more in-depth and unbiased history of Fender, read Tony Bacon's book "The Fender Electric Guitar Book". Not informative - more like deluxe product brochure.
Considering George Fullerton’s unique place in Fender’s history as an employee and partner with Leo Fender throughout his different companies formative years, I was hoping for a book that offered a unique and/or detailed perspective on the development of quintessential guitars and amps in Leo’s resume and perhaps newer, interesting tidbits about Leo himself or George.Instead, the actual history of the partnership and classic instruments such as the Stratocaster is so brief (a few sentences are dedicated to most Fender instruments) and non-detailed the writing resembles the work of a disgruntled middle-school student who used a single newspaper article as their only source. The post Fender Musical Instruments section of the book is pretty much a promotional product brochure for G&L guitars in which Fullerton attempts to convince the reader why they are superior. The final section of the book is just low quality pictures of an older couple (Fullerton and his wife) vacationing around areas such as Branson, MO and Nashville, TN as Fullerton waxes how newer generations may be in moral jeopardy by not appreciating old, Hollywood manufactured cowboy types such as Gene Autry or Roy Rogers. You can gain more historical knowledge for any instrument (certainly amps) spending a few minutes on their respective Wikipedia pages. As far as George’s unique perspective, just ask any retired/elderly person to see their vacation photos and you have that covered.

Great book
Really interesting and a lot of facts and history. George seems to want more credit for Fender guitars than he was given by most people. Probablly should as he is still making guitars at G & L guitars.

Guitars from George and Leo - for fans of Fender guitars
If you want to know what Leo Fender got up to after selling the company which bore his name, read this book. It's written by his friend and business partner. The book provides useful background to Leo's early days in setting up his business and goes through the creation of the Fender company, his collaboration with Music Man, and the setting up of G&L Guitars. However, the content of this book is written in a very simple way. Sometimes, it is too simple and doesn't quite go deep enough to provide the reader with a true insight. Get the book if you are a fan of Fender guitars or if you own or intend to purchase a G&L guitar. It is a useful addition to the literature about Leo Fender.

Recht ok...
