I think its design is flawed slightly.
I bought this to use the smaller mold to make salmon patties. unfortunately to use the smaller mold you cannot use the presser since it is a larger diameter and won't fit in the small mold, granted you can use your hand to pack it down but for 2 cents they could have made it to fit the inside of the smaller mold so the patty could be compressed, works fine with the larger patty mold.

Now that I have this press, I wouldn't make a burger without it
This is a great patty press because of the versatility. You can make standard burger 4" in diameter. The thickness of the burger is determined by the amount of ground meat you put into it, i.e.1/4 lb. of meat will make a thinner burger than 1/2 lb. of meat. You can also make uniform sliders that are about 2.5". I made stuffed burger on my first try with this press, and they came out great, but there are a couple of changes I would make next time. I divided 1 lb. of ground bison with egg, a little bread crumbs, and Worcestershire sauce, into 3 equal portions and used about 1/4 cup of each to make the cover for each burger. These were put into the press to make thin patties. then I pressed the remaining portion of each section and used the indentation tool to make a well in each one. After I made the well, I put in diced onions, sliced mushrooms, crumbled blue cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese. Then I put on the tops previously made, and smoothed and sealed them with the press. They looked perfect. The only problem that I had was that I didn't make the cover portion of the meat thick enough. When I turned the burgers the tops on two of the burgers broke open. Even though the bottom of the form pushes up to release the burger, I very much recommend the use of patty papers to reduce sticking of the burger to the form. This is one of those kitchen tools that you didn't know you needed, but cant' do without it once you have it. Previous to getting this press, I always hand formed my burgers. I always had the problem of them falling apart when I turned them. When you use this burger press, you don't have that problem. The burger are always the perfect shape and equal thickness for the entire burger.UPDATE 09/30/18:I have 3 different burger presses, and I always tend to use this one. Of all of them, this is the simplest to use and the easiest to clean. Most recently, I have tried cooking burgers by the sous vide method, and this burger press make burger in the thickness you want and at an even thickness so that cooking is uniform. I always use the wax paper divider as these are helpful in popping the burgers out of the press. I so much like that the bottom of the press pops out to remove the burgers, and also makes the press much easier to clean. As yet, I haven't used the mini burger press option, but this would be equally easy to use and it is all stored together. The other hamburger presses that I have cost more and look more substantial, but this one is still my favorite. I don't bother trying to use the others as they are more difficult to use and clean.

Yup, it's another kitchen gadget :)
My husband is Mexican & very practical ~ I am white & love pampered chef parties. I've tried to buy his mom kitchen gadgets & he has to explain to me all the time that all his mom cooks with is a pot & a wooden spoon & won't use a tea bag strainer or a rice cooker etc. He also gets a little annoyed with some of my gadgets & sees no need for a panini press. {He still loves & indulges me, but, we have compromised on a few things}Well, turns out he loved this burger press- which was shocking! We grill probably once a week and had been buying pre-pressed patties which are surprisingly pricey compared to plain ground meat. Since he's an avid griller, he could tell that homemade patties just never cooked quite right because they vary in size / density etc & given the opportunity, my husband likes his patties cooked medium & that was just a hard feat with hand pressed patties. It also gives us the opportunity to grind our own meat for patties (thanks to one of my 6 attachments for the kitchenmaid mixer - cause you know I thought I had to have that gadget too, and had only used it twice prior to getting the burger press, so it's also helped me justify another purchase.) So we've been able to make some brisket mixed patties, patties with ground bacon mixed in, patties with liver & kidney, as well as buying wagyu ground meat to make into patties which you certainly do want uniform & cooked well.In short - it's weird how much you end up using this once you do start using it- especially if you're a griller. However, you will need to have patty paper to make it efficient & you can either cut your own or purchase it relatively inexpensively (especially if you were like us, paying for raw patties that were pre-formed- it's still way cheaper.) Burgers hold together better on the grates & you can also easily add mix-ins or make juicy Lucys.

A GOOD PRODUCT
I prefer slider sized hamburgers and this set gives you the choice of a large burger or a slider one. I would recommend any purchaser to first watch the video before using this product so as to not over think the simple procedure of making whatever size burger you may want. I do wish there was included a way that the various parts all stayed together when picking the unit up by the handle. I solved this problem by simply putting a rubber band around the pieces. The parts are very easy to clean. I do recommend this product.
