Incredible Account of Idi Amin's Uganda
Incredible book! I read it for a project for school (The course is on Genocide and Crimes against Humanity), and I was quite honestly dreading it. the first 4 chapters or so i skimmed through, because it wasn't what I needed for my project, but when the story got into the rule of Idi Amin, I couldn't put it down. The atrocities that occurred are talked about in a way that doesn't let you not feel sick, which is exactly how a story like this should be told. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested.

A very good factual read
I am Ragin Ali, from Uganda, living in Trinidad, West Indies in the Caribbean with my husband,My family and I were in Uganda in 1972 and migrated to the UK during Idi Amin's expulsion of Asians. My mother, my two younger sisters and myself left for the UK leaving behind my father as he was an Uganda citizen.Just before the deadline my father also left and was facilitated by the United Nation and taken to Belgium. He joined us in the UK approximately 14 months later. Here we started our new life all over again. It was very difficult for my parents, especially my mother who did not speak English and was forced to learn English and work to support the family.Just finished reading this very inspiring book with lots of emotions that brought back my childhood memories. My husband who is from Trinidad has also read this book and has learnt a lot more about Uganda and Idi Amin and found it very interesting. I will most certainly recommend this book to everyone interested in learning about the Asian expulsion from Uganda.I had heard a lot about what Urmila and her family experienced before they left Uganda but I did not experience it personally. However, I learnt an awful lot more from this detailed book.I very much admire Urmila for having the courage and strength to write her memoir and sharing her experience in detail with the world letting them know exactly how the Asians were treated by the dictator Idi Amin and his army.I have recommended this book to many friends and family in Trinidad who are very much interested in knowing more about Uganda especially when they know that I come from Uganda. I know some of them have already purchased and read this very absorbing book.Thank you and God bless, Urmila.

An amazing true story of survival, during Idi Amin's reign of terror.
Urmila Patel has written an amazing book about her experience of survival and eventual escape during Idi Amin's reign of terror. It was hard to put this book down, and I look forward to reading it again.
