The Sicilian Clan (Le Clan Des Siciliens)

This one is a cut above, and the directing is solid and stylish. You can feel the three star cast was assembled to deliver a blockbuster, and the budget shows. But the impressive effort falls a tad short of “ classic.” There are surprises, and clever moments, but looking at the film now I wasn’t fully engaged with the characters.

I'm reviewing the 2-disc blu-ray edition, which comes with an English version as well as the French version. Overall, this is a great release. The French version looks fantastic, sounds fantastic, and is generally fantastic except for Ennio Morricone's score, which drove me a little nuts with its repeated use of a mouth harp that seemed entirely out of place and was distracting. If there were half-stars, I would give the movie 4.5 stars because of the score. The story itself is nothing spectacular, but it's absorbing, and it's always nice to see Alain Delon in anything, and particularly nice when Jean Gabin is also in the cast.

Gabin is excellent as Manalese - Delon is his super cool self and of course Ventura is the cop who will stop at nothing to get his man and put him away. With a score by the world renowned film composer Ennio Morricone adds to the slickness of the movie. Henri Verneul is a ,master of the cinema and pulls no punches. Lovingly and beautifully restored and remastered its a must have for any gangster movie enthusiast.

I watched only a minute of it. I Thought Amazon made a mistake describing that film as 'English language' but no, it's really dubbed. How comes the original version is not an option. We are in the 21st century!

I love the intrigue and thought process that went into the crime.

This is a classic foreign movie released in 1969 ! There is plenty of action and great acting.If you like foreign films I highly recommend this.

Firstly. This is a Super Blu Ray disc! Great to see a late 60's movie all dressed up again to movie theater quality!Lastly, and not least, we have the French "Murder's Row" of French Gangster films!What fun; innovative, clever, witty, fast paced and of course the "bad guys" never win ending! Enjoy!

J'ai acheté ce dvd car j'avais besoin de le visionner en audio italien et sous-titre en français. Bien que sur la boite du dvd est annoncé sous-titre en anglais, français, allemand et neerlandais, ils n'existent pas en français. Je garde le dvd mais je suis trés mécontente.

KINO HAVE SERVED UP A EXCELLENT PRINT OF THE SICILIAN CLAN ON 2 DISCS. THE INTERNATIONAL CUT WITH FRENCH LANGUAGE WITH ENGLISH SUB TITLES AND THE U.SCUT DUBBED IN ENGLISH. THE FILM HAS A TOP CAST,BEAUTIFULY PHOTOGRAPH AND A WONDERFUL MUSIC SCORE BY ENNICO MORRICONE.IF YOU ARE A FAN OF FRENCH CRIME THRILLERS THIS WON'T DISAPOINT

Ich bin kein Enthusiast französischer Gangsterfilme. Viele von ihnen sind mir einfach zu verquast (man könnte auch sagen zu detailverliebt, überpsychologisiert und melodramatisch), versehen mit einem Hang Verbrechen und Täter zu heroisieren. So ist der hochgelobte Regisseur Jean-Pierre Melville mit seinen Langweilern ARMEE IM SCHATTEN (1969) und VIER IM ROTEN KREIS (1970) bei mir unten durch. Zu den positiven Beispielen zähle ich NEUN IM FADENKREUZ (1971), einem spannenden Thriller von Philippe Labro, der es bisher leider nicht auf deutschen DVD-Markt geschafft hat, sondern den man nur alle Jahre wieder im Nachtprogramm der ARD geniessen kann.Auch DER CLAN DER SIZILIANER (1969) von Henri Verneuil bereitet mir immer wieder Freude, denn er glänzt durch:1. eine starke Besetzung (auch wenn Jean Gabin die anderen Stars wie Alain Delon, Lino Ventura und Irina Demick drehbuch- und ausstrahlungsmässig etwas in den Schatten stellt),2. eine abwechselungsreiche Story (ein Gefängnisausbruch, Beziehungsspannungen, ein ausgeklügelter Coup, ein introvertierter Kommissar und ein strenger Patriarch, der sowohl den gutmütigen Opa als auch den eiskalten Paten abgibt) - das Drehbuch basiert immerhin auf einem Roman von Auguste Le Breton (RIFIFI),3. ausgewogene Schnitttechnik (Pierre Gillette), die keine Langeweile aufkommen lässt,4. professionelle Kameraarbeit (Henri Decae) mit wohldosierten Actionszenen zulande und in der Luft,5. einen exzellenten Titelsong von ‘Grossmeister’ Ennio Morricone (nur echt mit Beteiligung der Mundorgel).Die BD beschert uns im Vergleich zur DVD ein knackigeres, kontrastreicheres und farblich ausgewogeneres Bild. Die Körnigkeit des Bildes variiert im Verlauf des Filmes, gelegentliche Verschmutzungen und Bildfehler halten sich in erträglichen Grenzen. Die deutsche Tonspur kommt dagegen relativ dumpf herüber. Dafür überrascht uns diese Edition mit Extras, wie sie bei älteren Streifen dieser Art eher selten vorkommen. Neben der Originalfassung (122 Min.) beinhaltet die Scheibe :- die simultan mit leichten Variationen in Bild und Schnitt gedrehte US-Version (118 Min., Englisch mit dt. UT), deren Bildqualität das Original sogar noch übertrifft, dafür klingt die englische Tonspur leider etwas 'blutleer' (sprich studiolastig),- eine Einleitung des französischen Regisseurs Fred Cavaye (4 Min., Französisch mit dt. UT),- sowie einer Reminiszenz namens ’Die Legende des Clans’ (64 Min., Französisch mit dt. UT).Fazit : DER CLAN DER SIZILIANER ist ein handwerklich und darstellerisch sehr gutes Beispiel für das Kino der ’alten Schule’. Jüngere Betrachter wird dieser Streifen möglicherweise etwas altbacken erscheinen, für mich aber ist der Film, der nur selten Hektik aufkommen lässt, ein Kunstwerk für Geniesser - Chapeau !

A really nice french movie with Handsome Alain delon in it.. I really like the 70s style in the movies and settings...However this is a crime thriller so it shows life of a sicilian gang living in france. The women are Beautiful in the movie and Alain delon is handsome but plays a tough man....I am happy with the Bluray quality and Amazon India should tell there seller to provide more such Foreign Films of class...This movie has some really good tsar performances of that era comething you dont get much nowadays.. Lino ventura plays serious police detective...jean gabin plays sicilian main head member...all of the stars really perform well..Cinematrography-9/10direction/style-10/10actors-10/10
