Good
It is QUIET but not silent. I am sharing a studio with a roommate and she sleep right next to me. I can still use the mouse and not wake her up.Build quality seems average though. It definitely feels lightweight. But I wanted quiet and it works.EDIT:8 months now. It still works great. Happy with my purchase.EDIT:11 months. The primary button was misclicking then stopped working. I was still under warranty and was able to sent it back and got a replacement no problem. Any company that stands behind their product gets 5 star from me IMO. However, I do wish they spent a little more money on making it a little higher quality. After reading some of the reviews here about broken wheels and buttons not working, they might save themselves some headache and improve the build quality.Overall, I have no problems ordering this brand again. But only if the next version has a better build.

Ahh... quiet!
I'm a home-based employee for the last 5 years and rely completely on my computer equipment for a living. At the beginning of the year, I purchased a pair of Microsoft Comfort Mouse 6000 (S7J-00010) for my new tower and laptop. Great mice, and they work just fine. But WOW... they had the loudest clicking I've ever experienced. A couple of projects at work required me to work unusual hours (starting at 5 am for 3 weeks, working til 1 am at other times), and when the world is very quiet at those hours, loud mouse clicking seemingly echoes and gets that much louder.Started looking for "silent" mice and came across the Nexus SM-8500 here at Amazon. The reviews were mixed, but I decided to give it a shot. Hooked one to the tower and immediately noticed the difference. Instead of the sharp, loud clicks of the Microsoft mouse, I had muted "dull thuds" for all 5 buttons of the Nexus. My ears were happy again - I can now work early or late and not worry about truly unnecessary noise. The mouse itself is equally functional to the Microsoft - no operational issues with buttons or the scroll wheel, and it tracks smoothly and easily. One thing to note... this is solely a right-hand mouse, as it has a deep right-handed thumb rest (sorry, southpaws). I'm keeping the Microsoft mice as backup, but this Nexus mouse is exactly what I need to work in peace.

Great mouse, but received two defective ones before receiving good one. Terrible customer service.
The SM-8500 Silent Wired Mouse is a great design. I previously used one from 2012 until this year, 2022, when it failed. I'd say that's a pretty good run, considering it was used for hours almost every day.So, early this year I ordered a new one from Amazon. When it arrived, it turned out to be defective. Instead of being silent, it clicked loudly when the thumb-operated "back" button was released. I returned it for a replacement. The replacement mouse had the exact same defect. I repeatedly wrote the seller through Amazon, but for months received no reply. I repeatedly emailed the manufacturer, Nexus. No response. I repeatedly called and emailed the seller, SilentPC. I left voicemails but nobody ever called back. However, I kept calling. One day someone answered. He said he couldn't help me, and I should work it out through Amazon.By this time it had been more than three months since the original purchase. The Amazon return period had lapsed, but I again wrote the seller, SilentPC, through Amazon. Through Amazon, the seller offered to send me a third mouse. Warily, wearily, I accepted. On the same day, I at last received a reply to one of my direct emails to SilentPC. The person who replied said he had checked their inventory and it appeared all the SM-8500 Silent Wired Mouse products have similarly noisy "forward/back" buttons. He said he had reached out to the factory about it, but had no other solution to offer at this time. I wrote him back but he didn't reply.A few days later the third mouse arrived. Surprisingly, it worked fine, totally quiet. As of this writing I've been using it for two months and it's still working well. I hope that lasts, knock on wood.In summary, it's a fabulous product. I don't know of any other quiet wired mouse on the market. Unfortunately, it took me 3.5 months and numerous Amazon messages, emails, and phone calls to get one that wasn't defective. Two stars off for that.

It is very quiet ... but
This mouse is quiet (I can't see how it could be quieter) It was so quiet it felt surreal using it. It's also very responsive and beats wireless mice by a mile. Now for the downside: whatever material they use to make it soft is far too slippery to be practical. It's a nice looking mouse and it feels nice, but after spending $40 I had to put pieces of scotch tape onto the mouse to give it some grip. While I'm happy with the mouse and will keep it, this velvety, slippery, no grip idea has got to go. My A/C remote is made out of the same material but it's not as annoying on there as it is on a mouse.I finally have a mouse that is quiet and responsive but it looks like it's 6 years old because it's covered in scotch tape. Ah well, that's not all that important to me.The cord could be a bit longer. I have a computer desk with a thin piece of cardboard on the back with a cut-out for wires. Unfortunately, I had to cut out a new area with a box cutter to make the mouse reach. This is, of course, if you're feeding it through the back and not laying it over the desk top.I like the size of the mouse and the weight is acceptable. The forward/back buttons work nicely, though, they too, would work better if the overall grip on the mouse was better. So, all in all, I'm happy but with a little work this mouse could be perfect. You have to wonder how some products get through the testing phase. I can't see how no one noticed that the mouse is so sleek it can't be gripped properly.I'm giving it 4 stars because I don't want to discourage people who want a responsive, quiet mouse from buying it, but the satiny feel is definitely odd. Nothing a little tape can't fix though and now I can go back to enjoying the internet w/out constantly wanting to throw my wireless mice against the wall.
