Wow.
Not going to write a dissertation here. The writing is fluid and poetic. Sometimes the author tosses in a phrase that feels like an impulsive thought - incomplete and unexpected but accurate and concise. The story is sleepy but engaging. There is pain of unfulfilled plans on almost every page and the characters just go on living despite the disappointment and despair. It's so heavy to read that I had to frequently put the book down. There is a birthright about love among many Black American women. This love is strict, uneffusive and cold but at the same time fierce and unconditional. It keeps families close despite the lack of "warm fuzzies". Watts has portrayed this love throughout the novel, giving what I think is a realistic glimpse into the every day experiences of Blacks in America.

Eh
I was bored for the majority of this novel. None of the characters (and there are a lot) really stand out. You do feel a little sorry for some of the characters, but they make sure you don`t feel sorry for them for very long. The story doesn`t flow very well. I think this novel has some interesting ideas, but I think it needed editing.

NOT The Great Gatsby
I think they sold this author short by claiming that the book is the next Great Gatsby. The writing is wonderful but the story is not at all like the Fitzgerald classic. Without that anticipation i think I would have enjoyed the book more,

Didn't like it. It never caught my attention
Didn't like it. It never caught my attention, it took me 2 weeks just to get to page 100. I normally finish a book of this size in 2 or 3 days. The title does not fit the content. Very disappointed. I only finished it because I am in a book club. Others had similar thoughts about the book. Sorry Mrs. Watts

Slow and depressing...
This book is very slow and I never felt like it went anywhere... there wasn't anything inspiring about the sadness that everyone seemed to have. and I mean everyone in this book is miserable. I feel like you can read a depressing book that ultimately leaves you feeling OK, but this one was just very hard to keep reading.

Slow Read
No One Is Coming to Save Us is a very slow read. The story is depressing with no closure or hope for the future. The writing is very confusing, the book constantly changed subjects and direction and I found myself day dreaming throughout this book, which caused me to re read sections only to find myself daydreaming again because it was so boring.

Worth reading
This was a good read with well developed characters. It was interesting to see places I was familiar with referenced in in the book. However, there were points when the family dysfunction began to drag on the story. That said, Ms. Watts has great promise and I will read her next novel.
