1100 Decorative French Ironwork Designs (Dover Pictorial Archive)

It's an excellent book with small pictures to let you see the full object you wish to recreate, and full size pictures of the details so you can measure each bump and twist.The only thing I wish it had -- and I would gladly have paid extra for this feature - is instructions written by an experienced smith to help determine the order in which each piece should be shaped. I have enough experience to know that if you form the complex curves before you slide tab A through slot B, you will be very sad. But there are many complex shapes shown, and no suggestions as to which should be formed first.Still, it shows me what I want to know, and experimentation will show me how it all fits together.

While the book has lots of good pictures of large objects; window sills, window balconies and large balcony railings, which were my original area of interest, they get to the number of 1100 by including a bunch of small objects that were not of interest too me. Others may find the building fixtures, hat hooks, umbrella racks, etc. just what they are looking for.

I like, good that i hope, Meets and exceeds my expectations, I seem to be of good quality illustrations, i highly recommend.

I got a lot of ideas for cnc decorative layouts

This is my favorite from all of the ironwork design books that I've bought. It's chock full of ideas.

Very nice for my studies

This is a good resource book of designs, well presented and reasonably priced. However, i found that the designs being all drawings were not as helpful to me as photographs. If you prefer photos so that you can fully visualise the design, you may be better looking at Otto Hoever's Pictorial Encyclopaedia of Decorative Artwork, as this is all photos (an excellent book). (As this book was never billed as anyhting other than drawings then it still gets its five stars.)

Bought for university studies (studying printed textiles)Is a beautiful black and white book with fantastic ink drawings. Really very helpful, shows a range of illustrations from balconies, railings, railing ornaments, gates, door panels, dividers, rosettes, garden bench frames and so much more. Can't suggest this book enough if you are looking for inspiration in wrought ironwork etc! Very inspiring.

There is a great variety of styles to work from. The pictures are small though, but you can enlarge by tapping the pic.

Bought an old French railway station 3 years ago, and want something different for the front of the house. This has given us a good few ideas, but now don't know which to choose. Brilliant purchase.

For any aspiring artist, this is a great inspiration for ironwork, if you are considering butchering the book by cutting off something, please consider the paper is light weight, so doing so will destroy it. The illustrations are nice and give great ideas!
