Fun!
Heard a couple selections from this on the local classic music station and then lucky to find it marked down on Amazon. Erich Kunzel & Cincinati Pops, those were the days! Highly recommend.

Great American Music
I remember listening to this when it was on cassette tape many years ago. My dad would play it over and over again in the car whenever we would go on long road trips. So I'm glad that it's available for an MP3 download now; I've been listening to it in my iPod in the car, reliving old memories. This album is perfect for fans of American/Western music. It has classic Western TV themes, such as "Bonanza," "Rawhide," and "Wagon Train". Whoever picked the William Tell Overture as the theme for the Lone Ranger was a genius, and it's inclusion is apposite for this CD. Then, there are rousing movie themes, such as "Big Country," "How the West Was One," and my personal favorite of the movie themes here, "Silverado." Further, the late, great vocalist Frankie Laine gives a great rendition of the theme song to "High Noon"; his version is an improvement on Tex Ritter's original, IMO. For me, the highlight of this CD is the medley of classic western songs- "Ti Yi Yippee Yippee Ay," "Shenandoah," "Red River Valley," "Home on the Range," and "Streets of Laredo." The men's chorus singing these songs has a beautiful, warm sound. So, all you fans of Classical, Western, American, Movie, and TV music, buy or download this CD- you'll listen to it over and over again.

The West Never Sounded so Good
A great CD of western classics and TV themes. The audio quality is top notch. Even the tracks with singing by Frankie Laine sound good; his voice is much more mellow than I'm used to hearing it.Rawhide sounds much better without the fakey bull whip sound effects and the orchestral backing was great.I really enjoyed the Rifleman theme with the opening series of rifle shots. I still remember Chuck Conners providing the action. If the idea of violence bothers you as it did one reviewer, you need to stear clear of Western songs and movies. Violence was part and parcel of the times.Especially enjoyable were the last few tracks of the orchestra being accompanied by a male chorus. The overall effect was very pleasant. There's something about classical music that lends itself to broad sweep landscapes, whether giving the feel of the open plains or the broad sweep of outer space. It certainly worked well for The Big Country, The Magnificent Seven and the Fury Suite.A great album that I highly recommend.

Round-Up is another collection of Western musical pieces, from both popular TV programs and excellent movies. It's done with great skill by Erich Kunzel & the Cincinnati Pops with Frankie Lane doing numerous vocals. What a great day it is for me to be able to work around my home and have 4 Telarc CDs featuring Erich Kunzel & the Cincinnati Pops (and one other Telarc, Holst's "The Planets" featuring Andre Previn & the Royal Philharmonic) on my Sony 5-disc CD player... how great is that, huh?!? On busier days I can click Repeat and listen to them all day long.Well... that's ME!

Great quality, and a vibrant performance
We had this disc when it first came out, one of the first that we had for our CD player. Our young kids (at the time, they're over 30 now) would ask for it to be played LOUD in the car, and would get exercise dancing to it.After loosing our original disk, I ordered this one when we were reminded of the quality.Glad we did.

A Great if not Perfect Anthology
This collection of Western themes shows off the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra under Erich Kunzel. It even boasts vocals by Frankie Laine on three tracks. There are cover versions of the main themes for four television shows -- Bonanza, Wagon Train, The Rifelman and Rawhide, with Mr. Laine joining in on the last one. And scattered about is also music from How the West Was Won, The Magnificent Seven, High Noon and Big Country, as well as themes from Silverado. Some traditional music, such as Shenandoah and a choral version of Streets of Laredo. The music is stirring, as well as nostalgic for many of us. As at least one other reviewer has noted, there are a couple tracks of distracting and unnecessary sound effects -- cattle, coyotes and a campfire -- but they certainly don't ruin things, and some may enjoy their presence. Anyway, the playing is brilliant and bold, and this album is a treat.

Great collection
Great surround sound, improves on original stereo. I wanted to try a super audio CD and was very pleased with it's 5.1 surround sound capability.

incisione Molto dinamica, sound pieno, in stile TELARC.. consigliato
Album interessante, divertente.
